Job summary

SMEC is seeking an Experienced Engineer – Roads & Highways to contribute to transport infrastructure across Western Australia, including Perth. You will work with industry-leading specialists on planning, design and delivery, applying engineering standards and project management principles within a supportive, flexible environment.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 1–6 years in roads/highways design, with strong communication and client-facing skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• 1-6 years of experience in roads and highways design
• Sound understanding of relevant Australian Standards and specifications
• Strong organisational and project coordination skills
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software and business systems
• Awareness of project management, WHS management and CRM principles
• An emerging capability in safety in design and risk identification

Responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality analysis and design outcomes aligned with technical standards and client requirements
• Independently undertake key technical tasks across multiple projects
• Apply project management principles to support on‑time, on‑budget delivery
• Prepare technical reports and proposals for small to medium projects
• Monitor scope and project risks while effectively utilising business systems
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, both internally and externally
• Collaborate effectively within a diverse, multi‑disciplinary team environment
