Job description

About Sellanes Farasat Immigration

Sellanes Farasat Immigration is an established Australian immigration practice providing strategic and practical immigration assistance to individuals, families, employers and major corporate clients.

Our work includes employer-sponsored migration, skilled visas, family migration, training visas, permanent residence pathways, labour agreements and complex immigration matters.

We pride ourselves on delivering professional, ethical and personalised service. As our practice and corporate client portfolio continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Immigration Lawyer or Registered Migration Agent to join our Sydney team.

This is an opportunity to become an important member of a progressive immigration practice, work directly with the firm’s Partners and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of the business.

The Position

The successful candidate will manage a varied immigration caseload and provide accurate, strategic and commercially practical advice to corporate and individual clients.

You will be supported by an established team of paralegals and administrative staff. However, you must be sufficiently experienced to manage matters independently, identify potential risks and provide reliable technical guidance with limited supervision.

The position is particularly suited to an immigration professional who enjoys taking ownership of matters, building strong client relationships and contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting consultations and assessing clients’ immigration circumstances and available visa options.
  • Providing clear, accurate and commercially practical immigration advice.
  • Managing visa, nomination and sponsorship matters from initial assessment through to lodgement and finalisation.
  • Preparing and reviewing applications, submissions, statements and supporting documentation.
  • Managing employer-sponsored matters, including Subclasses 482, 186, 494 and 407.
  • Assisting with labour agreement matters and permanent residence pathways.
  • Advising corporate clients on sponsorship obligations, compliance requirements and workforce planning.
  • Identifying legal, evidentiary and procedural risks at an early stage.
  • Responding to requests for further information and natural justice correspondence.
  • Liaising with the Department of Home Affairs, corporate representatives, applicants and other stakeholders.
  • Reviewing work prepared by paralegals and providing constructive guidance.
  • Maintaining accurate file notes, records, deadlines and case-management information.
  • Remaining informed about changes to migration legislation, policy and departmental procedures.
  • Contributing to the improvement of the firm’s systems, precedents and internal processes.
  • Supporting the Partners in maintaining the firm’s high professional and client-service standards.
Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must:

  • Be admitted as an Australian lawyer with a current practising certificate, be currently registered with OMARA as a Registered Migration Agent, or hold both credentials.
  • Have a minimum of three years’ substantive experience working in Australian immigration law or migration practice.
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of Australian migration legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Have experience independently managing visa applications and related matters from commencement to completion.
  • Possess excellent written English and the ability to prepare high-quality advice, submissions and professional correspondence.
  • Be confident communicating with corporate clients, employers, applicants and government departments.
  • Have strong attention to detail and the ability to identify legal, procedural and evidentiary issues.
  • Demonstrate excellent organisation, time-management and file-management skills.
  • Be professional, ethical, dependable and accountable for the quality of your work.
  • Be able to manage competing deadlines without compromising accuracy or client service.
  • Have the right to work in Australia.

Please note that general administrative, offshore processing or migration-assistant experience alone will not satisfy the requirement for three years’ substantive professional experience.

Highly Regarded Experience
  • Employer-sponsored visas, especially Subclasses 482 and 186.
  • Partner visa, Schedule 3, and Domestic Violence claim.
  • Subclasses 407 and 494.
  • 408 visa
  • General Skilled Migration Visa (190, 189, 491)
  • Parent visa
  • Aged Care Industry Labour Agreements or other company and industry labour agreements.
  • Corporate immigration and workforce-mobility matters.
  • Sponsorship monitoring and employer-compliance advice.
  • Visa refusals, cancellations, natural justice responses, and Administrative Review Tribunal matters.
  • Complex eligibility assessments and legal submissions.
  • Supervising, mentoring, or reviewing the work of paralegals.
  • Migration Manager or comparable legal practice-management software.
  • Business development and management of ongoing corporate-client relationships.
  • Skill assessment
What We Offer
The successful candidate will receive:
  • A competitive base salary of $105,000–$120,000 plus superannuation, depending on qualifications, experience and demonstrated capability.
  • Eligibility for performance-based incentives.
  • Direct access to and support from the firm’s Partners.
  • An established administrative and paralegal support team.
  • Exposure to significant corporate, employer-sponsored and labour agreement matters.
  • Payment of approved professional registration, practising certificate, CPD and relevant membership expenses.
  • Genuine professional development and the opportunity to assume greater senior responsibility.
  • A collaborative, respectful and supportive team environment.
  • Modern systems and an established client base.
  • A long-term opportunity to grow with an established immigration practice.
The Person We Are Looking For

Technical knowledge is essential, but we are equally interested in character, judgement and professional standards.

The ideal candidate will be someone who:

  • Takes genuine ownership of their work.
  • Communicates openly and respectfully.
  • Understands the importance of accuracy and professional responsibility.
  • Can explain complex immigration issues in clear and practical language.
  • Treats clients with patience, empathy and professionalism.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively while remaining personally accountable.
  • Is interested in building a long-term career with the firm rather than simply moving into another processing role.
  • Can contribute positively to the development of junior team members and the broader practice.
