Job summary

SMEC in Townsville is seeking an Experienced Drafter to support major transport infrastructure projects across Australia. You will produce buildable 2D drawings and construction documentation aligned with project standards and client requirements.

Join a collaborative, digitally enabled team, coordinating with engineers, designers and project teams to deliver high-quality drawings while supporting continuous improvement in drafting practices and data management within project workflows.

Qualifications

• 3-7 years of demonstrated experience as a Drafter within roads, highways, civil, or infrastructure projects.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
• Experience delivering detailed design and construction documentation
• Understanding of drafting standards, QA processes, and model coordination
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
• Experience working within digital delivery environments and across multidisciplinary teams will be highly regarded
• Familiarity with Austroads standards, road design documentation, and major transport infrastructure projects will be viewed favourably

The Role

We’re looking for an Experienced Drafter to join our Roads & Highways team in Townsville, supporting the delivery of major transport infrastructure projects across Australia.

In this role, you will be responsible for producing high-quality drafting and documentation outputs, ensuring alignment with SMEC and client standards while contributing to efficient, coordinated project delivery.

You’ll work closely with engineers, designers, and project teams in a collaborative, digitally enabled environment, playing a key role in delivering buildable, compliant design documentation for road, highway, and civil infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

About You

You’re a capable and detail-oriented drafter with experience working on transport infrastructure projects, ideally within roads, highways, or broader civil infrastructure environments.
