$125,700 - $133,050 per annum + super + salary packaging
Permanent Full time/part time
The Women's Legal Centre ACT is seeking an experienced executive officer with exceptional judgement, strong organisational discipline and a natural ability to turn ideas into action.
This is a newly created position to support the effective operation of the executive office by coordinating priorities, managing information and workflows, supporting Board and governance processes, and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support strategic relationships and advocacy.
Working closely with the CEO, you will help translate organisational priorities and strategic direction into practical work. You will often be working with broad ideas, complex issues and competing demands. Your strength will be in understanding the intended outcome, working out what needs to happen to achieve it, and ensuring the work progresses.
You won't need every task mapped out for you. You will be comfortable making sense of a conversation, identifying the key actions and decisions that follow, and creating the structure needed to deliver them. You will also be comfortable working with high degree of discretion, initiative and judgement and know when to bring something back to the CEO or Executive Team.
You are a woman, trans or non-binary person who cares about the quality of your work, communicate clearly, meet deadlines and find satisfaction in bringing things to completion:
have exceptional judgement and discretion - you can be trusted with sensitive information and complex issues requiring careful handling
can translate intent into action - you can listen to a broad discussion, grasp what is being sought and work out what needs to happen next; you turn ideas into clear tasks, plans and deliverables without needing detailed instructions at every step
bring order, structure and follow-through - you are highly organised and systematic; you keep track of commitments, anticipate deadlines, maintain oversight of competing priorities and make sure actions are completed; you notice what has been missed and take responsibility for following it up
can help turn advocacy priorities into action - you will support the CEO and Director Legal Services to progress WLC's strategic advocacy work, helping translate law reform and policy priorities into practical plans
can manage upwards with confidence and tact - you help the CEO and Executive stay focused on priorities, follow through on commitments and maintain momentum
are proactive and appropriately autonomous - you anticipate needs, identify gaps and solve problems rather than waiting to be directed
We are looking for someone who is confident working with complexity, identify what matters and bring clarity to the practical work required. We are looking for someone who can move between the detail and the broader organisational context without losing sight of either.
You will be joining an organisation committed to intersectional feminist practice, access to justice and structural change. We are looking for someone whose values align with our purpose and who understands that thoughtful, disciplined executive support is essential to delivering on that purpose.
At WLC, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that values collaboration, innovation, reflective practice and continuous improvement. Your contribution not only supports and improves how our solicitors assist clients, but also service development, law reform and advocacy that advances gender equality.
A lived experience of intersectionality is highly valued, so we welcome applications from First Nations women, women from migrant and refugee backgrounds and women with disabilities.
At WLC,we improve women's lives through specialist legal representation, support and advocacy, working alongside our clients to improve their safety, security and access to justice. Our work is grounded in feminist principles, trauma-informed practice and a commitment to creating meaningful, lasting change.
We also believe that doing meaningful work should not come at the expense of having a life outside work. We are committed to being a feminist employer of choice, with working practices that recognise and support the realities of our employees’ lives. We support our people to balance work with personal, family, cultural and community responsibilities, and place genuine importance on wellbeing, gender equity and sustainable working practices.
If you're looking for a workplace where you can use your professional skills to make a difference, while being supported to build a career that works with the rest of your life, WLC could be the change you're looking for.
