Job description

  • Unique leadership opportunity within NSW’s largest regional Council
  • Permanent position, a role YOU design to ensure you’re there for the moments that matter most

At City of Newcastle (CN), we're shaping a vibrant, sustainable and connected city for future generations. As Executive Manager Project Delivery, you'll play a pivotal leadership role in bringing the Newcastle 2040 Community Strategic Plan to life through the successful delivery of major capital works, infrastructure projects and city-shaping programs.

This is a rare executive opportunity to lead a diverse portfolio of civil, building and infrastructure projects that directly impact our community. You'll provide strategic direction, drive operational excellence and lead high-performing teams to deliver safe, innovative and sustainable outcomes that create lasting public value.

As a member of CN's Leadership Team, you won't just work for the city, you'll help shape its future. Your leadership will contribute to organisational strategy, foster a culture of continuous improvement and empower people to deliver exceptional outcomes for the community.

Reporting to the Executive Director City Infrastructure, you will lead a large multidisciplinary team to deliver CN’s major capital works programs, valued at over $130M. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders, contractors, government agencies and delivery partners to ensure safe, efficient delivery that meets the highest standards of quality, governance and community value.

About You

You are a strategic and accomplished executive leader with extensive experience delivering large-scale capital works, infrastructure or construction programs within complex environments. Backed by a strong technical background, ideally in civil infrastructure, engineering or a related discipline, you combine operational excellence with long-term strategic thinking to deliver sustainable outcomes.

You have successfully led large multidisciplinary teams and are recognised for building high-performing cultures that enable people to grow, innovate and succeed. Passionate about developing capability, you invest in coaching and mentoring leaders, strengthening succession pipelines and creating career pathways that support a resilient and future-focused workforce.

An influential communicator, you bring proven experience engaging with diverse stakeholders, communities and governing bodies, ideally within local government or similarly complex settings. You are confident representing major projects in public forums, Council meetings and executive environments, bringing credibility, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to complex issues.

Most importantly, you are an authentic and visible leader who inspires confidence through calm, considered leadership. You are naturally curious, committed to continuous improvement and motivated by challenging the status quo to achieve better outcomes. By setting clear direction, building trust and empowering others, you create lasting impact through both the projects you deliver and the people you develop.

With natural assets and a focus on the environment, co-create a sustainable region with us.
