Job summary

Westpac is seeking an Executive Manager, Group Audit – Data & AI Risk to lead independent assurance across data and AI risk portfolios. The role shapes audit strategy and delivers insight-led assurance to executives and the board from Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane with hybrid arrangements.

You will oversee controls across data governance, data quality, metadata, AI governance, model risk, and AI-enabled decisioning, working with senior leaders to drive improvements in the control environment

Qualifications

• Proven experience in audit, assurance, risk management, or control functions within a regulated environment.
• Deep expertise across data and AI risk domains including governance and model risk.
• Ability to assess design and operating effectiveness of controls across complex tech landscapes.

What’s the role?

As an Executive Manager, Data & AI Risk within Group Audit, you'll lead independent assurance across one of Westpac’s most strategically important and rapidly evolving risk portfolios.

Working within the Technology, Data, Digital and AI Risk team, you’ll provide oversight and assurance across key data and AI risk domains including data governance, data quality, data lineage, metadata management, AI governance, responsible AI, machine learning, generative AI, model risk management, and AI‑enabled decisioning.

You’ll shape audit strategy and coverage across the portfolio, ensuring assurance activities remain aligned to emerging risks, regulatory expectations, technological change, and business priorities. Working closely with senior business, technology, data and risk leaders, you’ll deliver insight‑led assurance, identify thematic and emerging risks, and influence improvements to the Group’s control environment.

This is a permanent, full‑time role based in Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane, with hybrid working arrangements, offering the opportunity to influence executive and board‑level decision‑making while helping shape the future of Data and AI assurance across the Group.

What do I need?

• Proven experience in audit, assurance, risk management, or control functions, ideally within financial services or another highly regulated environment
• Deep expertise across Data and AI risk disciplines, including data governance, data quality, AI governance, model risk, responsible AI, machine learning, generative AI, and advanced analytics
• Experience assessing the design and operating effectiveness of controls across complex business, technology, data, cloud, and AI environments
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, prepare executive and board-level reporting, and contribute to enterprise-wide risk decisions
• Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, while driving strategic capability uplift and continuous improvement
• Strong analytical capability, including experience leveraging data analytics, automation, or AI-enabled techniques (e.g. SQL, Python, Alteryx, Copilot or similar) to support assurance outcomes

Experience within first and/or second line risk functions, as well as Data, AI, or Risk-related certifications, will be highly regarded.
