Job summary

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (QLD) Ltd in Brisbane seeks a Principal Legal Officer to lead statewide practice across Criminal, Family and Civil Law. Reporting to the CEO, you will work with Directors of Law and Regional Managers to set standards, mentor leaders and drive service quality while upholding cultural safety.

This is a senior, non-caseload role focusing on governance, risk management, law reform advocacy and data-driven service improvement.

Qualifications

• 10+ years post-admission experience in legal practice.
• Current Queensland Practising Certificate.
• Senior leadership of a medium to large legal team.
• Strong criminal or human rights foundation, with family/civil law exposure.
• Data, reporting and government-funded program experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead statewide practice in Criminal, Family and Civil Law.
• Set practice standards and mentor leaders.
• Shape law reform and advocacy at State and Commonwealth levels.
• Use data to improve services and meet funding obligations.
