Job description

Are you passionate about using evidence to drive change? eSafety is seeking two skilled Evaluation Officers (one quantitative, one mixed-methods) to help shape safer online experiences for Australians.

The Evaluation Officer roles sit within the Research and Evaluation team which focuses on supporting, encouraging, conducting and evaluating research about online safety.

We do this so:

  • our programs, policies and regulatory functions are evidence-informed
  • robust, person-centred evidence on the prevalence and impact of online harms is available to stakeholders
  • the evidence base on what works to prevent and remediate online harms continues to grow.

As an Evaluation Officer, you will work as part of a collaborative and expert mixed-methods research and evaluation team. You will support the design, implementation, and reporting of evaluation activities that inform strategy, policy, and programs addressing issues such as cyberbullying, parenting in the digital age, and image-based abuse.

A key focus of this role will be supporting the evaluation of the world-first Social Media Minimum Age legislation. The successful applicant will work closely with the eSafety team and domestic and international experts, applying their evaluation and analytical skills to contribute to evidence-based insights that inform continuous improvement and strategic decision-making. The evaluation represents an unprecedented opportunity to study the impact of age-based social media restrictions, and to advance our scientific understanding of the relationship between social media and wellbeing. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to other evaluation projects across eSafety, building your expertise and supporting a culture of learning and improvement.

Mandatory qualifications and experience:
  • An undergraduate degree (or higher) in social science, criminology, or a related discipline, where research methods and their application was a key component of the course work.
  • 3+ years of professional experience conducting primary research/evaluation in an evaluation/applied research setting. For example, where your core responsibilities included contributing to the design of methodologies, implementation of fieldwork, and/or analysis and dissemination of findings.
  • A strong interest in pursuing a career in the APS in evaluation.
