Job summary

Labour Connect in Cairns, QLD, is seeking an Estimator / Supervisor to lead insurance repair projects. You will oversee on-site delivery, coordinate trades, prepare scopes of works and costings, and liaise with clients and insurers to ensure timely, quality repairs.

Reporting to the Director, the role requires a site supervisor licence, estimating experience, and strong communication. This is a hands-on leadership position in a growing emergency retrofit team.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director, you have worked in the Insurance or building or construction industry with a forte for cost management, within the Fit-out and Refurbishment arena.

• You are autonomous, compassionate, and personable as you attend to commercial and residential damaged properties, virtually and physically inspecting, liaising with trades and assessing.
• You are experienced overseeing and managing the on-site delivery of insurance related building repairs and re-inatement work.
• You will play a critical role in coordinating trades, maintaining client communication between the business and customer service team while being the key link between contractors, and customers.
• You are critical in ensuring a smooth repair experience from beginning to end.
• You can prepare a scope of works and any required contract documentation to provide costs to repair damaged property, including straightforward tender submissions.

Duties, in summary, will include

Operations

• Ensure project delivery is within agreed timeframes and within budget
• Manage coordinate and maintain concurrent jobs by maintaining relationships, comprehensive site documentation, capture daily activities progress, and key events
• Coordinate and schedule trades to undertake initial make-safe works to prevent further loss or damage.
• Conduct thorough assessments of property damage, either onsite or remotely, in accordance with relevant building codes, industry standards, and insurer requirements.
• Prepare detailed and professional causation reports and Scope of Works for both minor and major building losses.
• Identify high-risk work as part of assessments and support HSEQ planning and assurance activities.
• Ensure all estimations comply with relevant legislation, codes, and HSEQ standards.
• Follow established business procedures and actively support continuous improvement initiatives.

Financial

• Ensure all cost estimates are accurate, competitive, and compliant with contract requirements, insurer expectations, and relevant pricing structures.

Processes

• Make recommendations to Management encouraging growth of the business whistle enhancing systems, and training programs that support the development of the team.

THE ESSENTIALS

• A site supervisor licence or building license,
• Estimating, insurance assessment, or a related construction or trade-based role.
• Trade qualification or tertiary education in building, construction management, or a related field or
• White Card
• Current driver’s licence
• Solid understanding of residential and/or commercial construction methods, materials, and building codes
• Demonstrated experience preparing scopes of work and damage causation reports
• High level of written communication skills for professional reporting
• Lateral thinking and problem-solving skills.
• CRM Systems, operational and reporting skills with a willingness to work in an ever-changing environment
