Job summary

DSD is seeking an experienced Fitout Estimator to join our growing team in Surry Hills. You will own estimating and tendering across commercial fitout projects, from early opportunity through to handover to delivery.

This hands-on role requires strong cost planning, bid strategy with senior leaders, and the ability to produce compelling tender submissions while building robust relationships with subcontractors and clients. Construction knowledge and market awareness are essential.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience estimating commercial fitout and refurbishment projects.
• Strong understanding of construction methodology and on-site delivery of fitouts.
• Detailed knowledge of the Sydney fitout subcontractor and supplier market.
• Ability to interrogate drawings and specifications to identify missing scope or risk.
• Experience preparing professional tender submissions and bid documentation.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes.
• Prepare detailed estimates, trade breakdowns and tender pricing.
• Develop subcontractor and supplier tender packages.
• Manage subcontractor pricing and perform trade comparisons.
• Take-offs and first-principles estimating where required.
• Identify scope gaps, design issues, risks and commercial opportunities.
• Prepare tender clarifications, exclusions, qualifications and value-management options.
• Work with senior leadership on bid strategy, positioning and pricing.
• Produce high-quality tender submissions and client-facing documents.
• Attend site inspections, tender interviews and client meetings.
• Build relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and clients.
• Maintain up-to-date understanding of subcontractor rates and market conditions.
• Collaborate with delivery team for thorough handover after tender.
• Support wider team in identifying and converting new business opportunities.

DSD is looking for an experiencedFitout Estimatorto join our growing Fitout team in Surry Hills.

This is a key position within the business, working closely with oursenior leaders to identify, price and secure new opportunities across the commercial interiors market.

We are looking for someone who understands that estimating is about more than producing a number. You need to understandhow projects are built, where the risks sit, where the market is positioned and what it takes to put together a bid that wins work.

You’ll be involved from the earliest stages of an opportunity through to tender submission, negotiation and handover to the delivery team.

The role

You will take ownership of estimating and tendering activities across a range of commercial fitout projects, including:

• Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes
• Preparing detailed estimates, trade breakdowns and tender pricing
• Developing subcontractor and supplier tender packages
• Managing subcontractor pricing and carrying out detailed trade comparisons
• Undertaking quantity take-offs and first-principles estimating where required
• Identifying scope gaps, design issues, risks and commercial opportunities
• Preparing tender clarifications, exclusions, qualifications and value-management options
• Working closely with senior leadership onbid strategy, positioning and pricing
• Producing high-quality tender submissions, proposals and supporting bid documentation
• Attending site inspections, tender interviews and client meetings
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and clients
• Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of subcontractor rates, material pricing and broader market conditions
• Working with the delivery team to ensure a thorough handover following a successful tender
• Supporting the wider team in identifying and converting new business opportunities

This is a hands-on role. While you will have the support of the wider DSD team, we want someone who is comfortable getting into the detail, picking up the phone to the market, challenging pricing, working through a difficult scope and helping turn an opportunity into a compelling submission.

About you

You will ideally have:

• Demonstrated experience estimatingcommercial fitout and refurbishment projects
• A strong understanding of construction methodology and how fitout projects are delivered on site
• Detailed knowledge of the Sydney fitout subcontractor and supplier market
• Strong relationships across key fitout trades
• The ability to interrogate drawings and specifications and identify missing scope or commercial risk
• Strong estimating, cost-planning and analytical skills
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of what makes a tender competitive
• Experience preparing professional tender submissions and bid documentation
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• The confidence to engage directly with subcontractors, consultants and clients
• The ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously

A construction-related qualification is desirable, butpractical fitout experience and genuine market knowledge are more important to us than the qualification on your CV.
