Job summary

Talent Nation partners with one of Australia's leading property investment and funds management businesses to appoint a commercially minded ESG leader for the Retail sector. Based in Sydney, you will report to the Head of Retail Finance and work with Funds, Property, Asset Management and the Group ESG function to drive sustainability initiatives.

The Role

This newly created position represents a unique opportunity to lead and deliver ESG outcomes for the Retail business while working at the intersection of sustainability, finance and asset performance. Reporting to the Head of Retail Finance, you will act as the ESG lead for this sector, partnering closely with Funds Management, Property Management, Asset Management, Finance and the Group ESG function to drive sustainability initiatives that create measurable commercial value.

The role combines strategic ESG leadership with strong commercial and financial accountability. You will oversee embedded network performance, investor reporting, energy procurement initiatives, emissions reporting, ESG disclosures and sustainability data management, while supporting compliance with sustainability reporting obligations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of the Retail ESG strategy, ensuring alignment with the company’s broader ESG framework and targets.
• Partner with Retail leadership and operational teams to identify and implement initiatives that improve sustainability performance and create commercial value.
• Oversee emissions, climate and sustainability reporting, supporting regulatory obligations and investor disclosure requirements.
• Manage ESG-related financial planning activities including budgets, forecasts, embedded network performance, LGCs, carbon offsets and energy-related business cases.
• Lead investor ESG reporting, presentations, questionnaires and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Support energy procurement strategies, asset acquisitions and sustainability-linked projects that contribute to portfolio value creation.
• Act as a key connector between Retail, Finance, ESG and operational teams, fostering engagement and accountability for ESG outcomes.

About You

You are a commercially minded ESG professional who understands how sustainability initiatives create business value. You may have started your career in a Big 4 consulting, assurance, finance or accounting environment before transitioning into ESG, sustainability or property. Equally, you may bring experience from property, funds management, infrastructure or real assets where sustainability, reporting and financial performance intersect.

You thrive in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments, enjoy solving complex problems and have the confidence to engage with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions. Most importantly, you are a self-starter who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.

Required Skills and Proficiencies

• Demonstrated experience in ESG, sustainability, finance, property, infrastructure or related sectors.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts, financial analysis and business case development.
• Knowledge of sustainability reporting requirements, including mandatory climate disclosures.
• Understanding of emissions reporting, energy markets, carbon offsets, renewable energy certificates or related sustainability mechanisms.
• Experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across diverse business functions.
• Familiarity with ESG frameworks and benchmarks such as GRESB, PRI, Green Star and NABERS is advantageous but not essential.
• Excellent analytical, communication and relationship-building skills.
