Job summary

AECOM Australia Pty Ltd is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Planner to join our Sydney Environmental Impact Assessment team. You will lead EIA studies and work across transport, renewable energy, and other sectors, coordinating teams and engaging with clients.

You will mentor junior staff, manage project delivery, and help shape environmental planning for major NSW projects with hybrid work options. A strong consulting background and robust communication are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental planning, or environmental engineering with 3+ years relevant work experience.
• Environmental impact assessment experience across numerous market sectors and a good industry reputation.
• Strong team player, confident communicator, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated project management and project delivery skills, including time management and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental impact assessments for projects across transport, renewable energy, transmission, water and industrial sectors.
• Contribute to constraints analyses, strategic planning, pathway assessments, and environmental management plans.
• Coordinate project resources, budgets and schedules, maintaining delivery and quality standards.
• Mentor and guide juniors, including graduates and undergraduates, supporting their development.
• Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships with commercial acumen and emotional intelligence.

With our incredibly strong project pipeline of transformational energy and transport projects we are seeking a Environmental Scientist/ Planner to join our Sydney Environmental Impact Assessment team.

We are a passionate team of environmental impact assessors working within an organisation creating meaningful change both in Australia and around the globe. Our team is made up of twenty-two environmental impact assessors across Sydney and Newcastle and due to recent project wins we are growing. We are looking for professionals who will lead environmental impact assessments for projects across transport, renewable energy, transmission, water, and industrial sectors. Our enviable EIS portfolio includes Sydney Metro EISs, Great Western Highway Blackheath to Little Hartley EIS, the first offshore wind farm EIS in Australia; longest road tunnel EIS in Australia and the first place-based EIS for an infrastructure project in NSW.

• Contribute to constraints analyses, strategic planning pathway assessments, and environmental management plans
• Assist with coordinating project resources, budgets, and schedules, maintaining effective delivery and quality standards
• Mentor and guide juniors, including graduates and undergraduates, supporting their technical and professional development
• Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, applying commercial acumen and emotional intelligence to project leadership.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental planning, or environmental engineering with 3+ years relevant work experience, consulting experience (desirable)

Environmental impact assessment experience across numerous market sectors and a good industry reputation.

Strong team player, confident communicator, both written and verbal.

Demonstrated project management and project delivery skills, including time management and organisational skills
