Job summary

Blacktown City Council is seeking an Environmental Health Officer Cadet to assist across public and environmental health initiatives. You will support projects, policies and programs that keep local places clean, healthy and sustainable, while learning from experienced professionals.

This term contract, full-time role offers trainee rates, flextime access, 12% superannuation, and ongoing training and wellbeing programs within Australia’s large council environment.

Qualifications

As an Environmental Health Officer Cadet, you help protect public and environmental health across Blacktown City. You support projects, policies and programs that keep local places clean, healthy and sustainable. Working alongside Council officers, community members and other stakeholders, you help address environmental and public health issues and contribute to positive outcomes for the community.

Your day-to-day work includes responding to environmental health enquiries, assisting with public health inspections, supporting environmental surveillance activities and contributing to sustainability initiatives. You participate in programs covering food premises, cooling towers, commercial swimming pools, on-site sewage management facilities and environmental incidents. You prepare reports and correspondence, maintain records, assist with environmental health assessments and support programs that help Council meet its environmental responsibilities.

This role suits someone who is currently enrolled in a relevant environmental health qualification, and enjoys solving problems. You communicate clearly, use Microsoft Office applications confidently and can quickly learn new systems. You take a practical approach to your work and are interested in environmental and public health.
