Job summary

Shellharbour City Council is seeking an experienced Environmental Health professional to join the Environmental Health team to undertake scheduled inspections of licenced and registered premises while providing support, guidance and coaching to team members.

You will deliver environmental health services across food premises, legionella control, pools and onsite sewage systems, investigate complaints and incidents, assess development applications, and provide specialist advice to the community

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent eligible for Environmental Health Australia
• Significant experience as an Environmental Health Officer or in a similar role
• Strong knowledge applying Local Government, Public Health and Environmental Health legislation
• Ability to investigate issues and prepare clear, accurate technical reports and recommendations
• Excellent communication, negotiation, customer service and conflict resolution skills
• Experience supervising, mentoring and developing staff
• Current NSW Class C Driver Licence

• Assess development applications and provide specialist environmental health advice
• Provide expert advice to the community, Council and other stakeholders on environmental health matters, legislative requirements and industry best practice
• Support, mentor and coach team members to foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment

About you:

You will be a knowledgeable and customer-focused environmental health professional with strong regulatory experience and a commitment to protecting public health.

You will also bring:

• A Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health), or equivalent qualifications eligible for membership of Environmental Health Australia
• Significant experience as an Environmental Health Officer or in a similar role
• Strong knowledge and experience interpreting and applying Local Government, Public Health and Environmental Health legislation
• Demonstrated ability to investigate issues and prepare clear, accurate technical reports and recommendations
• Excellent communication, negotiation, customer service and conflict resolution skills
• Experience supervising, mentoring and developing staff
• Current NSW Class C Driver Licence
