Job description

What's the role? Are you a visionary editorial leader ready to build and shape a premier national entertainment destination? We are looking for an Entertainment Editor for our State & Communities portfolio to spearhead the creation and day-to-day operation of the network's sixth national content pillar. This includes our metropolitan and community mastheads such as The Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun, Courier Mail, Advertiser and more! In this high-impact leadership role, you will drive exclusive stories and celebrity access, unifying our entertainment output into a coherent, nationally programmed powerhouse that accelerates subscriber acquisition and audience engagement across our mastheads and the News Corp Australia network. Leading a dedicated national team and collaborating with state-based reporters, you will oversee high-profile investigations, major interview franchises, and cross-platform distribution across print, digital, video, newsletters, and social.

About the role

In this role, you will define the editorial vision, oversee the editorial output, streamline operational rhythms, and drive subscription growth across our national entertainment ecosystem:

  • Establish the annual national and state programming calendar, commissioning and delivering exclusive breaking news, high-impact investigative content, celebrity interview franchises, power lists, and premium features to a publish-ready standard.
  • Oversee daily output including breaking news stories and video
  • Oversee and sign off on the Sunday premium print offerings
  • Chair national editorial planning meetings, manage 4 national direct reports, and collaborate with state-based Confidential and masthead reporters to prioritise national amplification without conflicting with local priorities.
  • Partner closely with the News Corp Australia network, masthead editors, and Watchlist to maximise content leverage, and eliminate editorial duplication.
  • Deliver against key digital growth targets
  • Collaborate with Product and Marketing to launch a unified entertainment navigation structure and lead a comprehensive tagging and taxonomy remediation program.
  • Understand SEO commissioning and execute cross-platform amplification strategies across YouTube, targeted newsletters, and consolidated social media channels.
Who are you?

We are seeking an experienced editorial leader with strong commercial instincts and a background in scaling digital audiences:

  • You offer demonstrated senior leadership experience driving entertainment, lifestyle, or culture journalism within a fast-paced media environment.
  • You have proven experience launching, restructuring, or significantly scaling a content vertical or national digital property.
  • You understand and value the power of exclusive content and celebrity access and can support a team of journalists in delivering on these metrics
  • You understand digital subscription economics, funnel optimisation, and audience performance metrics (such as digital data, conversion rates, and bounce reduction).
  • You possess strong stakeholder management skills and proven success managing distributed, matrixed editorial teams and diverse newsroom communities of practice.
  • You bring deep relationships with entertainment publicists, PR agencies, television networks, streaming platforms, film studios, and music labels.
  • You are a strategic thinker across print, digital, video, and social formats, adept at operating across multiple mastheads simultaneously while maintaining distinctive brand voices.
Why Join Us?

Lead the transformation of a major national content pillar reaching millions of Australians daily. High-visibility leadership role with direct reporting lines to senior editorial executives. Autonomy to build a shared content destination across leading digital mastheads and the News Corp Australia network. Collaborative, ambitious culture committed to premium journalism and digital growth.

Applications close 9th November 2026
