Job description

Motium is a designer and advanced manufacturer of rugged technology and accessories for harsh environments, providing a range of standard and custom products to our global customer base – think tough and technical computers, LCD monitors, IIoT, and more.

With 23 years' experience in the game, our tech is developed from the ground up and is proudly made TUFFer down under in Western Australia!

Motium is on a growth trajectory, and we are looking to find a highly capable, reliable, and zesty individual to join us on our journey. If you're passionate, keen to learn, and looking to achieve more than you ever thought possible, Team Motium offers the potential for you to help create something you can be an important part of.

About The Role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who is not just a leader, but also a builder of teams, a strategist, and a champion of innovation who delivers world‑class solutions and solves problems.

If you love leading people, drive big–picture strategy, and still have the technical chops to talk shop with engineers, domestic/international suppliers, and customers, this is your opportunity to shape Motium's engineering strategy and deliver solutions that Tier 1 customers rely on.

You will be the driving force behind our engineering department spanning electronics, mechanical, software/firmware, and areas such as LCD, touch, GPS, Panel PCs, high‑speed processors, and electrical interfaces. Your focus? People leadership, strategy, capability building, while leveraging your technical expertise to engage with stakeholders.

You will oversee product design strategy (how our solutions come together for customers) and hardware design execution (the nuts and bolts: electronics, mechanical, PCB design). From developing engineering strategy aligned with our company and product goals to collaborating with sales and product teams to deliver integrated solutions for our Tier 1 customers, you will ensure Motium stays ahead of the curve.

Reporting to our experienced and knowledgeable Manager of Products & Engineering, you will be in a full‑time role with flexible working hours based at our office in Bentley.

Your day‑to‑day will revolve around the following:

Mentor and grow a talented engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and excellence.

Develop and execute an engineering roadmap that aligns with Motium's business and product strategy, and positions us ahead of the competition.

Oversee the entire lifecycle, from concept and design to validation, production release, and support.

Work closely with product and sales teams to design and deliver complete solutions for Tier 1 customers.

Ensure compliance with industry standards and maintain robust testing and documentation.

Keep projects on time, on budget and on point. Manage risks and make clear decisions when things get tricky.

Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to optimise manufacturability, improve testing systems, ensuring product quality, seamless delivery, and customer satisfaction.

Engage with international suppliers and customers to keep quality high and relationships strong.

Use your technical background to guide decisions on designs and manufacturing for PCs, LCD monitors, and more.

Oversee system architecture and integration across hardware and software.

Create and evolve engineering processes, standards, and documentation protocols to drive efficiency, continuous improvement, and innovation.

Lead your team's performance and deliver results that matter.

What Are We Looking For?

Here are some of the things we think will make you likely to succeed in this role:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Systems, or related field.

Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.

Strong background in product development, hardware, and software integration.

Experience hiring, mentoring, and holding teams accountable.

Strategic thinker with a knack for aligning engineering and company goals.

Experience working with Tier 1 customers and international suppliers.

Experience supporting solution selling – understanding customer needs and collaborating with product and sales teams to deliver complete solutions.

Excellent project management skills – budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.

We understand that not everyone is confident when applying for roles. If you are feeling unsure about any of the details, please don't hesitate to email us at recruitment@motium.com , and we will be in touch with you as soon as we can. And we're sorry, but you do need to have permanent rights to work in Australia.

Here are 4 reasons why we think you will love working with us:

Culture of friendliness and inclusivity: We truly care about our people and our work, embracing the diversity of our workforce and ensuring everyone has a sense of belonging.

Flexibility of your working hours: Tell us what working hours would best suit you, and we will work our hardest to accommodate what you need.

Receive recognition for your wins: Our favourite pastime is to celebrate the success of our employees and recognise the contribution to our company. We want you to take pride in your accomplishments, and if you're doing a fabulous job, we want to make sure you know!

Chances for growth and progression: As Motium continues to grow in every facet, you will grow with us. There will be plenty of ways for you to achieve your career goals and targets. Hear that? That's the sound of opportunity calling your name.

Here are 4 reasons we are afraid you might not want to join us:

We operate in a high‑feedback environment. You will be required to challenge, be challenged and face challenges. We recognise that this approach is not for everyone.

Motium is growing. As such, not all our policies and procedures are shiny and well‑polished. We are a work‑in‑progress and catching up as quick as we can. However, if you find it difficult to work without 100% of the processes outlined, this role might not be for you.

We are agile, fast, and quick to react when we see problems. We expect everyone to take ownership of their own mistakes, and help deliver a successful, quality resolution.

We take pride in what we do and aim to deliver highest quality solution possible for the problem. This requires a high level of attention to detail.

Want to join us?

To apply, please provide your resume and a cover letter highlighting what you specifically can bring to this role.

Unsure what to include in your cover letter? Don't stress! Let us know what your top 3 skills or accomplishments are and why you think you have met your match in us.
