Your resume and cover letter, tailored to exactly what they’re hiring for.
Northrop Grumman Australia seeks an engineering leader to uplift the Engineering Management System (EMS). You will own the EMS roadmap and deliver improvement initiatives while working with program teams, engineering leads and capture activities to address delivery challenges.
You will guide a small team focused on People, Process and Tool outcomes, partner with programs across the business, and drive continuous improvement in governance and execution.
We are Northrop Grumman Australia (NGA). Our 800 strong team is leveraging unparalleled global resources to deliver sovereign Defence capability aligned to the Government’s priorities across Aeronautics, Mission Critical Systems, Space and Guided Weapons. As we build our business and our capabilities, we are also developing a reputation as a great place to work. Help us define what is possible for our nation and for your career.
Across the Northrop Grumman Australia business, our engineering processes, tools and governance have developed over time. We're now bringing these together into a more cohesive Engineering Management System, and this role will play a leading role in shaping that transition, translating strategy into practical outcomes across people, processes, tools and programs.
You’ll own the ongoing uplift of the EMS, helping define what good looks like and driving the initiatives needed to get there. Around half of your time will be focused on developing and delivering the EMS roadmap. The other half will see you working directly with program teams, engineering leads and capture activities, helping solve delivery challenges while identifying opportunities to improve how engineering is executed across the business.
Success won't come from writing procedures. It will come from your ability to bring people with you, influence priorities, break complex work into achievable outcomes and maintain momentum when competing business demands inevitably emerge.
The scope is broad. You’ll work across systems engineering, design, technical services, business development and capture activities, with visibility across multiple programs rather than being tied to a single project. If your experience has given you a clear view of what good engineering governance and execution looks like, this role provides the platform to put that into practice at scale.
This role is based in Fortitude Valley or Springfield, Queensland. Hybrid working arrangements and a 9-day fortnight are available.
Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance are mandatory.
In this position you will:
Own the EMS roadmap and drive delivery of agreed improvement initiatives.
Lead and develop a small team supporting Engineering People, Process and Tool outcomes.
Partner with programs, engineering leaders and stakeholders across the business.
Prioritise resources and coordinate activities to achieve functional objectives.
Support continuous improvement across engineering capability, governance and execution.
You’re an experienced engineering leader who understands how large, complex organisations operate.
You may come from Defence, aerospace, aviation, transport or another engineering-intensive environment and have experience working across multiple programs, stakeholders and competing priorities.
You’ll bring:
Experience leading engineering teams, capability initiatives or functional improvement programs.
Strong planning and delivery skills, with the ability to turn strategy into action.
Sound judgement when balancing priorities, resources and business needs.
Credibility with engineers, program leaders and senior stakeholders.
The ability to influence, build alignment and bring people with you through change.
Most importantly, you’re someone who sees opportunities to improve the bigger picture and has the persistence to make those improvements happen.
We have built our benefits to help you define your possible.
Professional Development – further education, leadership development, professional industry memberships and unlimited access to a range of online training
Purchased additional annual leave – 2 weeks
Salary packaging including novated car leases
Generous paid parental leave – 18 Weeks
Volunteer and enhanced Reservist Leave
Employee Assistance Program
