John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department in NSW is seeking a Technical Assistant to support patient care in a fast-paced setting. You will perform IV cannulation, venepuncture, specimen collection, ECGs, observations and stock replenishment, while assisting clinical staff across a multidisciplinary team.
The role offers up to 35 hours per week, with salary at $33.76–$35.05 per hour plus super, in a permanent capacity. Training and mentorship will be provided to develop technical skills.

Caring for more than 85,000 presentations each year, our Emergency Department provides high-level care across Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation and Trauma, Acute Adult, Paediatrics, Fast Track and the Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU). Our team manages a diverse range of presentations, including major trauma, neurological and neurosurgical emergencies, orthopaedics, cardiology, cardiothoracic care and paediatric and adolescent mental health.

As a Technical Assistant, you’ll play an important hands‑on role in supporting the delivery of patient care within our busy Emergency Department.
This is a varied and fast‑paced position where strong communication, organisation and the ability to prioritise competing demands will be essential.
We’re looking for a flexible, reliable and team‑focused individual who thrives in a busy clinical environment and is committed to supporting high‑quality patient care.
You’ll bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage a demanding workload and confidence working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. You’ll be adaptable, organised and able to remain focused when priorities change quickly.
You’ll be well supported as you settle into the role. Initial education will include training in the required technical tasks, followed by dedicated supernumerary time working alongside an experienced mentor.
You’ll also have access to ongoing guidance and support from our highly qualified Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Unit Managers and Clinical Nurse Specialists, helping you develop your skills and maintain the highest standards of clinical practice.
