Job summary

The Elexon Group of Companies – Brendale QLD is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer (Intermediate to Senior) to work on wireless monitoring systems and IoT platforms for global mining environments. You will develop on ARM-Cortex / RTOS based platforms, delivering battery-efficient, robust embedded software in a small collaborative team.

Based in Brisbane with regular on-site presence, you will design, implement, and test SDR-enabled solutions, integrate sensors and power management, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor or postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of embedded software engineering on microcontroller-based platforms in C++.
• Preferably ARM-Cortex devices with FreeRTOS (or similar).
• Strong SDR architectures and DSP knowledge.
• Experience with wireless protocols and RF principles.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Use Agentic AI to develop and maintain simulation tools for modelling and testing wireless protocols.
• Design and maintain embedded software in modern C++ for microcontroller-based platforms.

Embedded Software Engineer (Intermediate to Senior)

About the Company

Elexon Mining designs and manufactures in-ground, wireless monitoring solutions. Our Geo4Sight products are deployed in challenging mining applications, often deep inside boreholes, requiring an extremely robust mechanical, electronic and software design. Your work will help improve safety and efficiency in global mining operations.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to help shape the next generation of our world‑leading wireless Geo4Sight monitoring hardware. This is your chance to work on projects that push the boundaries of embedded systems and deliver real‑world impact.

To successfully perform this role, you must be willing to be based in Brisbane. Regular on‑site presence will be required due to the hands‑on nature of embedded systems development.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities

• - Support the design, development, and implementation of custom Software Defined Radio (SDR) solutions on embedded platforms.
• - Utilise Agentic AI to develop and maintain simulation tools for modelling and testing basic wireless protocols.
• - Design and maintain embedded software in modern C++ for microcontroller‑based platforms.
• - Integrate sensors, communication modules, and battery management systems.
• - Optimise power consumption and validate performance on‑target using embedded test tools.

What we are looking for in you:

• - Bachelor or postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• - A minimum of 5 years professional experience working as an embedded software engineer on microcontroller‑based platforms in C++. Preferably ARM‑Cortex devices with FreeRTOS (or similar).
• - Solid understanding of Software Defined Radio (SDR) architectures and concepts.
• - Strong foundational knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and concepts.
• - Deep understanding of wireless communication protocols and RF principles.
• - Experience with Git and CI/CD practices.
• - Willingness to embrace and master new technologies.
• - Experience with STM32 family of processors, IDE and tool chain.
• - Experience developing for wireless and battery powered applications.
• - Understanding of, or experience with, using Agentic AI to develop simulation tools for basic wireless protocols.
• - Expert proficiency in C++ for embedded systems development.
• - Proficiency in implementing and optimizing DSP algorithms in C++ for resource‑constrained embedded systems.
• - Familiarity managing wireless protocol stacks.
• - Proficiency with debugging tools: logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, debuggers.
• - Experience with automated testing frameworks (GoogleTest) and peer code reviews.
• - Experience with version control systems (Git) and software development methodologies.
• - Understanding of software testing methodologies and quality assurance practices.
