Job summary

Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC in Redmond is seeking a software engineer to drive the design, development, and operation of embedded software for satellite systems. You will contribute across the full software lifecycle from requirements through implementation and test to operations.

You will own functions in C, C++, Rust or similar, and work with I2C, SPI, Ethernet interfaces. You will collaborate with hardware teams, follow high-reliability practices, and support the Satellite

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture of systems experience.
• 1+ years of software development in embedded or distributed systems using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in CS/Engineering/Math or related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

• Drive the design, development, and operation of Mode Management, telemetry, power control, hardware interfaces, and autonomous capabilities for satellites.
• Own embedded software functions through design, implementation (C, C++, Rust or other), test, and integration in embedded Linux or RTOS.
• Interact with devices/electronics via I2C, I3C, SPI, RS-422/485, Ethernet and other interfaces.
• Collaborate with hardware teams for setup, verification, integration and testing.
• Adhere to high reliability software practices to ensure satellite reliability and availability.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will drive the design, development, and operation of a variety of key functions such as Mode Management, telemetry, power control, hardware interfaces, and autonomous capabilities for each satellite throughout its lifetime – from launch to de-orbit.

In This Role, You Will

• Own unique embedded software functions through design, implementation (in C, C++, RUST or other), test, and integration in an embedded Linux or real-time operating system (RTOS) environment.
• Write software to interact with devices/electronics using I2C, I3C, SPI, RS-422, RS-485, Ethernet, etc. communications.
• Work closely with hardware teams for setup and verification, as well as integration and testing.
• Follow best practices in high reliability embedded software development to ensure high levels of satellite reliability and availability.
• Work on the Satellite Communication Systems Payload.

About The Team

Our team tackles many critical satellite functions including power management, hardware interfaces, command & telemetry, and autonomous control. We are looking for an software engineer to participate in all phases of software development from requirements through implementation and test to operations.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
