Job summary

South32 is seeking an Electrician (Fixed Plant) to maintain surface electrical infrastructure in the concentrator processing plant, ensuring reliability and safety.

The role involves preventative and reactive electrical work, using SCADA/PLC systems, and HV reticulation management. FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.

Qualifications

• Experience in concentrators or process plants within mining/heavy industry.
• Ability to work independently and in team environments.
• Strong safety focus across all work practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative, corrective and reactive electrical work on critical plant equipment.
• Use 1SAP and similar systems for work management, scheduling and reporting.
• Work with SCADA, PLCs, instrumentation and control systems to support plant operations.
• Manage high voltage reticulation networks including switching, terminations and splicing.

ABOUT CANNINGTON

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.

Flights are direct to the onsite airport, and the mine is only 3.5 km from camp—the perfect distance for a sunset walk or run home along a purpose-built walking track. The onsite accommodation includes meal services, sports/gym facilities, swimming pool, music room, and social area.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a Permanent position on a 7:7 rotating roster (dayshift/nightshift), FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry and McKinlay shires.

As the Electrician (Fixed Plant), you will be responsible for maintaining surface electrical infrastructure in the concentrator processing plant, ensuring equipment reliability and safety.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Perform preventative, corrective & reactive electrical work on critical plant equipment
• Use 1SAP and similar systems for work management, scheduling, and reporting
• Work with SCADA, PLCs, instrumentation, and other control systems to support plant operations
• Manage high voltage reticulation networks, including switching, terminations, and splicing

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Experience in concentrators and/or process plants within mining or heavy industry
• Able to work independently and in team environments
• Strong safety focus in all work practices
• Competent in using computer systems and digital tools
• Leadership or supervisory experience (desirable)

Qualifications for this position are:

• Electrical Trade Qualification
• Current Electrical Licence; Electrical Mechanic or Electrical Fitter Mechanic
• Current Open Drivers Licence
