Job description
The Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Lawyer to lead a litigation team within a federal government department. The successful candidate will lead the department’s response to all litigation matters, instructing legal services providers and appearing before the Tribunal or Courts.

Responsibilities

You would be responsible for :

  • managing the department's discretionary payments function; and
  • coordinating whole-of-Government responses to large scale projects which have direct impact on the Department’s objectives and require consultation across the Government, such as class actions and income apportionment.
Requirements

The successful candidate must have extensive litigation experience and a thorough understanding of the legal services directions and be able to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with policy clients and Commonwealth legal practices as well as legal expertise to be able to manage matters independently at the direction of the Deputy Chief Counsel and Chief Counsel, while also developing a team of junior lawyers.

Legal qualifications, a current practising certificate and a current minimum Baseline security clearance are essential.
