Job summary

Queensland Corrective Services – Spring Creek QLD is seeking an Education Officer to design and implement education and vocational training for inmates at Southern Queensland Correctional Centre. The role focuses on providing opportunities tailored to inmates' needs within the facility.

You will coordinate external personnel, liaise with providers, assess education standards, and contribute to sentence management and community options while ensuring health and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• A degree in education, training, or a related field is mandatory.
• Educational and/or Training Degree qualification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Queensland Corrective Services – Spring Creek QLD

Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) is located in Spring Creek, approximately 17 kms from the township of Gatton in the Lockyer Valley. The centre provides high security secure placement accommodation for sentenced and remand women that are classified as high or low security.

Women who enter the criminal justice system often come from lives characterised by sexual, emotional and physical abuse, domestic and family violence, substance addiction and mental health problems. QCS provides a gender-responsive, trauma-informed approach to managing women with the goal of offering an opportunity to truly rehabilitate and escape the cycle that led to crime.

About the Role

The Education Officer will design, plan, and implement education and vocational training programs and related developmental activities to meet the needs of the inmate population within the centre.

The primary accountabilities of the Education Officer include:

• Design, plan and implement an education and training program for the correctional facility, focusing on the provision of opportunities for inmates to access vocational and educational training appropriate to their needs.
• Monitor and coordinate the work of external personnel within the centres education program.
• Consult and liaise with training providers and other community interest groups for the purpose of providing the most appropriate educational services.
• Assess inmates' education standards, provide advice and direct them regarding the opportunities available both within the centre and within the community.
• Contribute to processes for sentence management, case management and assessment for community-based options.
• Provide advice to the Manager Offender Development on a range of issues pertaining to education programs within the facility.
• Ensure other employees, contractors and visitors are not exposed to risks to their health and safety arising out of your conduct.
• Comply with all policies, procedures and instructions given for workplace health and safety at the workplace by the Agency and ensure your workplace area is safe and without risk to health.
