Simon & Schuster Australia is seeking an Editorial Team member to support publishing operations across commissioning, planning and production. The role involves assisting with editorial administration, managing meetings and rights catalogues, and coordinating reports, data, and database content.
The candidate will handle diary management, author gifts, event and staff travel schedules, and participate in reading submissions, awards entries, and metadata tasks.
This role supports all aspects of publishing by assisting the editorial team in the core administration of the commissioning, planning and production of books.
This role would involve close involvement in all editorial administration activities leading to publication across titles, including (but not limited to): managing departmental meetings and rights catalogues, running reports and checking sales data; developing and maintaining content on the databases; departmental diary management; organising author publication gifts; and organising schedules for events and staff travel.
There are also other responsibilities, including: reading submissions; awards submissions; ordering gratis copies and legal deposits, creating presentations for internal conferences, maintaining best-in-class metadata; liaising with authors and agents.
The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, be able to take their own initiative and will thrive in a busy and varied role. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with an exceptional grasp of spelling and grammar, and a meticulous eye for detail.
They’ll be a keen team player with an ability to interact at all levels, who can understand and respond to team needs, shifting priorities, and work collaboratively to meet deadlines. This role doesn’t require prior publishing experience, but someone who is passionate about books, eager to learn and excited to take the first step in their publishing career.
This is a full-time permanent role, currently operating a hybrid working arrangement, the candidate must be able to attend the office weekly.
