Job summary

NextGen Jobs is seeking a Parks and Gardens Apprentice to join a Victorian City Council in Croydon. This is a 3-year paid apprenticeship with full-time hours (7:30am–4:30pm, 9-day fortnight) and study for a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens through TAFE with fees covered.

You will assist in maintenance across parks, reserves and open spaces, learn horticultural techniques, and complete required records while working under supervision.

Qualifications

• Positive attitude towards full-time work and gaining a national qualification.
• Commitment to TAFE studies and apprenticeships.
• Provisional or full licence and own car are essential.

Responsibilities

• Support the maintenance and presentation of parks, reserves, waterways, open spaces and other Council-managed areas across the municipality.
• Weeding, herbicide application, brush-cutting, mowing, mulching, pruning, path and fencing repairs, nursery operations and other general horticultural maintenance activities.
• Regularly inspect Council parks, reserves and open space areas to identify maintenance requirements, hazards, damage or deterioration, and promptly report issues including unsafe or damaged park fixtures, infrastructure and amenities.
• Accurately complete daily timesheets, maintenance requests, work records and quality management documentation in accordance with Council procedures and requirements.
• Participate in relevant training, development activities and apprenticeship programs to build horticultural knowledge, practical skills and workplace capability in line with apprenticeship requirements.
• Safely operate, maintain and care for Council vehicles, plant, tools and equipment, ensuring they are used in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements, operating procedures and relevant standards.
