Great Southern Bank (Formerly CUA) is looking for a Domain Architect Data based in Brisbane to play a key leadership role within the Technology Division. The successful candidate will work across multiple teams and drive technical direction while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions.

With over 10 years of experience in Information Technology, ideally within banking, the ideal candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to define domain architecture, manage architectural risks, and align solutions with business strategies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in IT, with at least 7 years in architecture roles.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise platforms and technology ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of application architecture and distributed systems design.

Job description

As our highly valued Domain Architect Data based in Brisbane, you will be a senior technical leader in the Technology Division and collaborate across Customer, Enterprise, Core Banking and Operational technology teams, and Enterprise Delivery. You will strongly influence technical direction across the breadth of your Domain as a senior technical leader committed to delivering high-quality, compliant, commercial, scalable and secure solutions.

You’ll make an impact by:
Strategy and Planning
  • Actively participate as a senior member of the Technology Architecture guild in technology governance processes.
  • Collaborate with senior domain stakeholders to drive Domain Strategy forward.
  • Define Domain Reference Architecture and transition states over 1, 2 and 3 year horizons, and longer-term up to 5 years.
  • Collaborate with Governance and Risk functions to define relevant governance strategies, control frameworks and compliance approaches.
  • Engage business and CIO stakeholders during solution concept phases to guide direction and architectural alignment.
  • Facilitate stakeholder alignment and shared understanding of architectural decisions.
  • Ensure solutions are fit for purpose across commercial, functional, quality and timeliness dimensions and aligned with business strategy.
  • Maintain enterprise architecture artefacts in line with solution changes.
  • Recommend process and tooling improvements to strengthen solution architecture capability.
Acquisition and Deployment
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry innovation and relevant Domain technologies.
  • Select and acquire new solutions or enhance existing platforms to improve Domain and enterprise capability in line with procurement processes.
  • Lead completion of solution architecture deliverables including options analysis, assessments and decision facilitation.
  • Document solution architectures for change initiatives.
  • Assess and communicate risks associated with architectural investments and decisions.
  • Define, establish and embed sound architecture and design practices and guardrails, including standards, automation and quality frameworks.
  • Collaborate with architects, technical leads, analysts, business stakeholders, infrastructure and partner teams to produce and implement appropriate solution architectures.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise and platform blueprints.
  • Identify and manage technical interdependencies across solutions and programs.
  • Decompose complex cross-program solutions into logical technology components for delivery across initiatives.
  • Design and implement cross-functional solutions spanning legacy and transformation architectures.
  • Maximise reuse, modularity and enterprise value across programs.
  • Facilitate solution governance to ensure adherence to defined architecture standards.
  • Work with platform owners to identify and remediate risks and technical debt.
Operational Management
  • Support architecture governance controls across the SDLC and project delivery frameworks.
  • Oversee investigations into significant technical issues and provide structured communication to senior management.
  • Transfer knowledge and uplift capability across engineering, architecture and delivery teams.
  • Build and maintain effective networks across projects, platforms and stakeholder groups within Great Southern Bank.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in Information Technology, with at least 7 years in architecture roles (Domain, Enterprise or Solution Architecture).
  • Experience operating in complex enterprise environments, ideally within banking or regulated financial services.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise platforms, technology ecosystems and domain-aligned architecture capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of application architecture, integration patterns, platform architecture and distributed systems design.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale solutions on modern cloud platforms.
  • Broad technical understanding spanning infrastructure, networking, databases, security, applications and platform services, with the ability to analyse architectural interdependencies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading architecture across large transformation programs or strategic initiatives.
  • Experience managing architectural risk, regulatory considerations and technology governance in regulated environments.
  • Proven capability providing technical leadership and direction to engineering teams, both internal and partner-delivered.
  • Experience working across multiple stakeholder groups including business leaders, delivery teams, vendors and technology partners.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, consultation and communication skills, able to translate technical architecture into clear business outcomes.
  • Solid understanding of IT operations, service management and operational resilience considerations in architecture design.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and architectural oversight across multiple initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, systems-thinking and problem-solving capability.
