Job summary

Altruistic Care Services in Armidale (NSW) and Victoria invites compassionate Disability Support Workers (Male and Female) for casual roles to support individuals with disabilities, helping them maintain independence, dignity and quality of life.

You will provide direct personal care, assist with mobility and daily activities, enable participation in community events, and work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, person-centered care while maintaining clear records.

Qualifications

• Experience in aged care, disability support or community services environments.
• Certificate III or IV in Disability Support Services, or equivalent qualification.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Sound knowledge of disability support principles and safeguarding.

Job description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Male and Female Disability Support Worker to join the team at Altruistic Care Services. This is a casual position based in Armidale (NSW), Officer (Victoria) and Wollert, Melbourne (Victoria) In this role, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals with disabilities, enabling them to maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life. As a Disability Support Worker, you will be instrumental in making a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable members of our community, helping them to access services, participate in community activities, and achieve their personal goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct personal care and assistance to service users, including support with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation
• Assist service users with mobility, transferring and positioning using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment
• Support service users to participate in community activities, social events and recreational pursuits
• Communicate effectively with service users to understand their individual needs, preferences and goals
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of support provided and any changes in service users' conditions or circumstances
• Work collaboratively with other team members, healthcare professionals and family members to ensure coordinated and holistic care
• Encourage service users' independence and autonomy whilst ensuring their safety and wellbeing
• Respond sensitively and compassionately to service users' emotional and psychological needs
• Report any concerns, incidents or safeguarding issues to management promptly and appropriately
• Adhere to health and safety procedures, infection control protocols and relevant legislation

What we’re looking for

• Not Required but would prefer someone who can communicate in Italian for Wollert location.
• Certificate III or IV in Disability Support Services, or relevant equivalent qualification
• Demonstrated experience working in aged care, disability support or community services environments
• Sound knowledge of disability support principles, person-centered care approaches and safeguarding practices
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with service users and colleagues
• Patience, empathy and genuine compassion for vulnerable individuals
• Physical capability to assist service users with mobility and personal care tasks
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect service users' privacy and dignity
• Reliable, punctual and flexible approach to work, particularly important for a casual role
