Job summary

Penske Australia & New Zealand is seeking an experienced technician to assemble, install, test and commission MTU generator sets and related equipment in our Brisbane workshop. You will perform mechanical and electrical upfits, handle documentation, and support inspections and testing to ensure quality delivery.

The role offers ongoing OEM training, a safe working environment, and opportunities to expand skills across mechanical and electrical systems with potential field service work.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Diesel/Heavy Vehicle/Plant Mechanic or similar.
• Experience working on diesel engines, power generation equipment or heavy machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and service information.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with electrical knowledge
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and customer satisfaction
• Effective communication and organisational skills

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, test and commission generator sets and related equipment.
• Perform mechanical and electrical upfit work on MTU 20V4000 Series Gensets.
• Complete work instructions and job documentation accurately.
• Conduct pre-delivery inspections and testing.
• Assist with troubleshooting and fault rectification.
• Support Electrical Technicians as required.
• Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards.
• Provide occasional field service support when required.

About The Role

Reporting to the Leading Hand - Genset Upfit, you will be responsible for the assembly, installation, testing and commissioning of generator sets and related equipment. Your duties will include:

• Performing mechanical and electrical upfit work on MTU 20V4000 Series Gensets
• Completing work instructions and job documentation accurately
• Conducting pre-delivery inspections and testing
• Assisting with troubleshooting and fault rectification
• Supporting Electrical Technicians as required
• Ensuring all work is completed to quality and safety standards
• Participating in continuous improvement initiatives and workshop processes
• Providing occasional field service support when required

About You

To be successful, you will bring:

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or similar
• Experience working on diesel engines, power generation equipment or heavy machinery
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and service information
• Strong mechanical aptitude with electrical knowledge highly regarded
• Well-developed problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and customer satisfaction
• Effective communication and organisational skills
