Job summary

BMD Group is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead design management across a major Tier 1 infrastructure opportunity. You will coordinate design development, constructability and interface management with delivery teams, clients and consultants.

Ideal candidates have demonstrated design-management experience on large Australian infrastructure projects, knowledge of RFIs and change control, and a relevant engineering qualification. Relocation to Adelaide is required for the role.

Responsibilities

• Manage design from initial concept and tender development through detailed design, construction, commissioning and completion.

• Lead design meetings, records, queries, RFIs, issue tracking and design variation management.
• Provide constructability advice and support project scoping, methodology and design development across the bid.
• Monitor design performance, scope movement, risks, opportunities and significant changes, escalating issues to project leadership.
• Maintain effective relationships with project leaders, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Support tendering of design and construct work and contribute to consistent design-management practice.

About the Role

Lead the interface between project delivery teams and design partners, managing design development, constructability and engineering coordination through tender and, subject to award, delivery. BMD is building a project leadership team for a major Tier 1 infrastructure opportunity in South Australia. The role will support a complex, multidisciplinary program with significant civil, structural and marine interfaces.

Your role will include:

• Manage design from initial concept and tender development through detailed design, construction, commissioning and completion.
• Coordinate designers, consultants and construction teams to deliver accurate, timely and buildable design outcomes.
• Lead design meetings, records, queries, RFIs, issue tracking and design variation management.
• Provide constructability advice and support project scoping, methodology and design development across the bid.
• Monitor design performance, scope movement, risks, opportunities and significant changes, escalating issues to project leadership.
• Maintain effective relationships with project leaders, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.

About You

To be successful, you will bring:

• Demonstrated design-management experience on major Australian infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of design coordination, constructability, consultant management, design governance, RFIs and change control.
• Experience across civil and structural works, with marine or other complex interface experience highly relevant.
• Ability to work effectively across pre-contracts and delivery teams and hold design contributors accountable for commitments.
• Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent demonstrated technical capability.
• Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor, joint venture or major-project consultancy experience.
• Willingness to relocate to Adelaide.

Highly regarded:

• Experience across the full design and construct lifecycle, including commissioning and completion.
• Chartered or registered professional engineering status where relevant.
• Experience establishing or improving project design-management systems and standards.
