Job summary

John Paul College in Frankston seeks an inspirational Deputy Principal - Learning & Innovation to lead curriculum, assessment and teaching across Years 7–12.

You will partner with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team to drive whole-school improvement, coach leaders, and embed evidence-informed practice while upholding Catholic values.

Qualifications

• Senior educational leadership experience in a secondary school setting.
• Proven success in leading whole-school improvement in learning, teaching and curriculum.
• Strong ability to coach and mentor leaders at all levels.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Familiar with MACS, VCAA governance and compliance.

About the Role

The Deputy Principal - Learning & Innovation is a pivotal senior leadership role responsible for advancing excellence in learning, teaching and innovation across the College. As the lead educational practitioner for the College, the successful applicant will drive strategic initiatives that enhance student outcomes, strengthen teacher practice and position the College at the forefront of contemporary education.

Partnering closely with the Principal and the Senior Leadership Team, the Deputy Principal will cultivate a culture where learning never stops, innovation is embraced and leadership is developed at every level. Through strategic vision, professional influence and a deep commitment to educational excellence, the successful applicant will play a critical role in shaping the future of John Paul College.

The role includes responsibility for:

Providing strategic leadership of learning, teaching, curriculum and innovation across Years 7-12.

Leading and driving whole-school improvement initiatives aligned with the College Strategic Plan.

Developing, coaching and mentoring Learning Area Leaders, Heads of Learning and other emerging and established leaders.

Fostering a culture of professional growth, collaboration, innovation and collective efficacy.

Leading the strategic design, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of curriculum programs.

Overseeing assessment, reporting and academic excellence to ensure high standards of student achievement.

Leveraging data, research and evidence-informed practice to drive decision making and improve student outcomes.

Ensuring compliance with MACS, VCAA and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

Building high-performing teams characterised by trust, accountability, shared purpose and professional excellence.

Promoting and strengthening the Catholic identity, mission and values of the College through leadership and example.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

Proven success in leading whole-school improvement in learning, teaching and curriculum.

Significant experience in senior educational leadership within a secondary school setting.

The ability to build and sustain a positive, collaborative and high-performing culture.

Highly developed leadership skills, including the capacity to coach, mentor and develop leaders at all levels.

Deep expertise in curriculum, assessment, reporting and evidence-informed pedagogical practice.

An ability to lead strategic change, innovation and continuous improvement.

Strong data literacy and the ability to translate evidence into meaningful improvements in student learning outcomes.

A capacity to influence, inspire and bring others on a journey of change and improvement.

Exceptional communication, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.

A strategic vision for excellence in teaching and learning within a contemporary educational environment.

Current Victorian Institute of Teaching registration.
