Job summary

Based at Mount Druitt Hospital Dental Clinic, you’ll be part of the Western Sydney Local Health District Oral Health team, supporting the delivery of high-quality dental services across a diverse range of community settings. Mount Druitt Hospital has proudly supported its local community for more than 50 years, providing comprehensive healthcare services and evolving with community needs.

You will travel between Western Sydney locations, assisting with mobile and fixed clinics and contributing

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent/current enrolment in the course.
  • Experience across a range of dental specialties.
  • Proficient infection control procedures and equipment handling.
  • Accurate dental charting and good computer skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication; able to liaise with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work in a large, multidisciplinary team and support trainees.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare dental equipment, instruments and materials, assist chairside and support patient comfort.
  • Maintain infection prevention and control, PPE, waste disposal, instrument reprocessing and sterilisation.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and digital data using NSW Health systems.
  • Travel between Western Sydney locations, handling portable dental equipment setup and pack-down.
  • Contribute to team meetings, training, oral health promotion and preventative programs.

Remuneration: $71,335 - $76,205 per annum

  • Work from the Mount Druitt Dental Clinic while supporting mobile and outreach services across Western Sydney.
  • Visit schools, hospitals, residential homes and other community locations as part of the Mobile Dental Program.
  • Work alongside experienced oral health professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Gain varied experience across paediatric, adult and older patient populations.
  • Enjoy convenient access to Mt Druitt train station and Westfield shopping centre, with onsite and street parking options.
What You'll Be Doing

As a Dental Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting clinicians to deliver safe, efficient and compassionate dental care in both mobile and fixed clinic environments.

  • Prepare dental equipment, instruments and materials, assist chairside and support patient comfort throughout procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, including PPE, waste disposal, instrument reprocessing and sterilisation.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and digital data using NSW Health and Oral Health systems.
  • Travel between Western Sydney locations, assisting with the safe transport, assembly and pack-down of portable dental equipment.
  • Contribute to team meetings, training, oral health promotion and preventative programs, while supporting trainees and new team members.
Essential Requirements

Qualification: Certificate III in Dental Assisting or recognised equivalent/current enrolment in the course.

Selection Criteria
  • Recent, adequate experience as a Dental Assistant across a range of dental specialties
  • Demonstrated ability to assist the clinician in a four-handed environment, with a variety of dental procedures including general or specialised care.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effective infection control procedures in all aspects of Dental Assisting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and accuracy in dental charting with good computer skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • The ability to work in a large, multidisciplinary team, and be able to liaise effectively with a range of individuals including fellow health care workers and the general public.
  • Excellent organisational, time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Hold a current Class C Licence and willing to take shared responsibility for safe driving of various fleet vehicles between locations in Western Sydney and back to the base location.
