Job summary

Coras is seeking experienced capability analysts at Manager and Senior Manager levels to join our Maritime Capability team in Canberra. You will work with Defence and Navy stakeholders to support development, definition, realisation and ongoing management of complex maritime capability.

The role suits Defence professionals with a strong understanding of naval capability, capability management, development, acquisition or realisation.

Qualifications

The Role:

We are seeking experienced capability analysts at the Manager and Senior Manager levels to join our growing Maritime Capability team in Canberra. You will work alongside Defence and Navy stakeholders to support the development, definition, realisation and ongoing management of complex maritime capability.

The role is suited to Defence professionals with a strong understanding of naval capability, particularly those with experience across capability management, capability development, engineering, acquisition or capability realisation. You will apply this expertise to analyse complex problems, shape capability outcomes and develop the advice, artefacts and decision-support material required to progress capability.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Supporting the development, definition, management and realisation of complex maritime and naval capability
• Analysing operational, technical, engineering and strategic information to identify capability issues, opportunities and potential solutions
• Developing and reviewing capability documentation, requirements, plans, governance material, briefs and other decision-support products
• Working with Defence, Navy, industry and technical stakeholders to develop and progress capability outcomes
• Providing trusted advice to senior stakeholders and contributing to projects, workstreams and consulting engagements relevant to the Defence Capability System (DCS)

Our Ideal Candidate:

You are an experienced Defence professional with a strong understanding of how naval capability is engineered, defined, developed, acquired, sustained and ultimately realised. You understand the relationship between operational requirements, engineering and technical considerations, capability outcomes and the broader Defence Capability System.

You are comfortable operating across operational, technical and strategic environments and can bring together complex information to identify issues, develop practical options and support senior decision-making. You can engage confidently with engineers, operational personnel, Defence stakeholders and industry, while translating complex technical and capability matters into clear advice and outcomes.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience in Defence capability management, capability development, capability realisation, or a closely related discipline
• Strong understanding of the Defence Capability System (DCS), including how capability decisions progress through the Defence capability lifecycle
• Experience developing and reviewing Defence capability artefacts, including briefs, submissions, governance material, requirements documentation, capability plans or related productsAbility to analyse complex information, identify key issues and provide clear, practical advice to senior stakeholders
• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to create concise and compelling documentation for senior audiences
• Demonstrated experience leading projects, workstreams or consulting engagements in complex Defence environments
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across Defence, industry and technical communities

Highly regarded experience includes:

• Experience supporting naval capability development, combat systems, engineering, sustainment or acquisition programs
• Experience working with Navy, the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) or Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), Defence Industry or other Defence organisations
• Exposure to Defence gate reviews, capability submissions, investment processes or strategic planning activities
• Qualifications in engineering, project management, Defence studies, strategic studies or related fields
