Job summary

Neko Geelong is seeking an experienced Cafe Chef / Cook for a daytime, weekday role in Geelong CBD. You will cook breakfast and lunch, manage prep and service priorities, and keep the kitchen clean and organized.

This position offers growth into a Kitchen Lead with greater day-to-day responsibility. The ideal candidate brings solid cafe/restaurant experience, strong organisation, stock control skills and a proactive attitude.

Qualifications

• Solid experience in a cafe, restaurant or similar commercial kitchen.
• Strong organisation and time-management skills.
• Confidence managing prep and service without constant supervision.
• Experience with stock control and ordering.
• Strong food safety and cleanliness standards.
• Good communication and teamwork.
• Ability to remain calm and organised during busy periods.
• Reliability and punctuality.
• A proactive approach and willingness to take responsibility.
• Interest in Japanese or Asian-inspired food.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook breakfast and lunch menus.
• Manage daily prep, mise en place and service priorities.
• Run an efficient and organised kitchen service.
• Maintain consistency in food quality, presentation and portioning.
• Manage kitchen stock, ordering and receiving deliveries.
• Monitor stock rotation, food waste and prep levels.
• Maintain food safety, cleanliness and kitchen organisation.
• Complete end-of-day cleaning and closing procedures.
• Support and guide other kitchen staff.
• Communicate effectively with FOH and management.
• Help improve kitchen systems, workflow and efficiency.
