Job summary
News Corp Australia in Sydney seeks a sharp News Editor to lead the 6am breaking news shift for NewsWire. You will oversee fast, accurate coverage, assign reporters, and make quick editorial calls across metro, regional news, courts, crime, politics and finance.
You'll manage a busy desk under time pressure, ensure lawful, fair reporting, and uphold editorial standards while collaborating with editors, photographers and other departments to deliver first-class content for NewsWire clients.
Qualifications
- Strong newsroom experience in breaking news editing.
- Proven ability to assign reporters and manage a live news desk.
- Sound understanding of Australian media law and reporting risks.
- Calm, decisive, organised, and able to work under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration across departments.
Responsibilities
- Lead the 6am breaking news shift and shape national coverage.
- Coordinate morning coverage across priority rounds including breaking news.
- Edit, publish, and move copy quickly with accuracy.
- Write headlines and urgent copy for NewsWire clients.
- Uphold editorial standards and legal obligations.
