Job summary

BDO is seeking a Data Steward to enhance data governance and management across the organisation. You will partner with Data Owners and stakeholders to ensure effective handling of critical data assets and to support implementation of IT and data strategies.

You will drive best practice governance, help classify and utilise data, and support governance artefacts such as metadata, glossaries and data catalogs, including using Microsoft Purview.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in a medium to large organisation.
• Experience in data governance, data quality, information management, compliance or a related field.
• Knowledge of data governance artefacts such as metadata, business glossaries, data catalogues or data lineage is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of data management frameworks (e.g. DMBOK) and tools such as Microsoft Purview is desirable.
• Experience delivering training, change management or adoption initiatives will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to gather and document data management requirements.
• Support Data Owners to manage critical data assets, data quality, governance controls and accountability; maintain metadata, glossaries, data lineage and data catalogues.
• Investigate and help resolve data quality issues with stakeholders to improve data accuracy and trust.
• Contribute to projects strengthening data governance, management processes and tools, including data classification and retention via technology such as Purview.
• Promote adoption of the Data Management Framework through training and stakeholder engagement.
• Build strong relationships across the business to support effective data use and governance.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of governance frameworks, standards, policies and tools.

About the Role

The Data Steward supports the continuous improvement of BDO's data management and governance capabilities by partnering with Data Owners and stakeholders to ensure the effective management of critical data assets.

The role helps drive best practice data governance, contributes to improving the way BDO store, classifies and utilises its data, and supports the delivery of BDO's IT & Data Strategies, and related policies, standards, tools and processes.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Skill/Attribute required

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve data-related issues.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into practical outcomes.
• Ability to collaborate across business and technology teams to drive data governance and best practices. A proactive mindset with a passion for improving data quality, governance and business outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience required

• 3+ years' experience in a medium to large organisation.
• Experience in data governance, business analysis, data quality, information management, compliance or a related field. Proven experience gathering business requirements and partnering with stakeholders to improve data outcomes.
• Experience with data governance artefacts such as metadata, business glossaries, data catalogues or data lineage is highly regarded.
• Knowledge of data management frameworks (e.g. DMBOK) and tools such as Microsoft Purview is desirable.
• Experience delivering training, change management or adoption initiatives will be highly regarded.
