BLACKROC Recruitment is seeking a Technical Lead to drive significant data platform modernization projects in Brisbane, Queensland. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading a large-scale data transformation program, ensuring technical solutions are effectively delivered while collaborating with various stakeholders.

Experience in managing cloud-based analytics environments, particularly AWS, and substantial knowledge of Databricks and data engineering practices is essential for this role. Formal Project Management certification will be highly regarded.

Job description

Blackroc is partnering with a major Queensland organisation undertaking a significant enterprise-wide transformation of its data and analytics capabilities.

As part of a multi-year strategic initiative, we are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to drive the delivery of critical data platform modernisation projects and help shape the future state of enterprise data and analytics.

You will play a key leadership role within a large-scale data transformation program focused on migrating enterprise data assets from legacy platforms to modern cloud-based data and analytics environments.

Working closely with senior project stakeholders, architects, engineers and delivery teams, you will lead the planning and execution of complex data initiatives, ensuring technical solutions are delivered on time, within budget and aligned to enterprise governance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Databricks platform design, implementation and technical delivery
  • Coordinate sprint execution and guide technical delivery teams
  • Partner with Project Managers to manage multiple workstreams and delivery priorities
  • Deliver data engineering, ETL/ELT and analytics solutions
  • Ensure platform scalability, performance, security and governance requirements are met
  • Manage project risks, issues and dependencies across delivery streams
  • Collaborate with architecture, cloud, security and business teams
  • Support migration of enterprise data products from legacy platforms to modern target‑state environments
  • Drive stakeholder engagement across technical and business functions
  • Manage and coordinate external delivery partners where required
Qualifications
  • 10+ years' experience delivering complex IT projects as a Technical Lead, Technical Project Manager or similar
  • Demonstrated experience leading Enterprise Intelligence, data platform or analytics projects within large organisations
  • Strong hands‑on Databricks experience, including Spark and Delta Lake
  • Data engineering, data warehousing and systems integration expertise
  • Experience delivering solutions within cloud‑based analytics environments (AWS preferred)
  • Strong Agile delivery experience and mindset
  • Proven ability to manage risks, issues, dependencies and competing priorities
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed technical teams and managing external vendors or delivery partners
  • Highly Regarded Formal Project Management certification or qualifications
  • Experience delivering projects within large government, utilities or highly regulated environments
  • Experience with Oracle, Aurora, PostgreSQL or other enterprise database platforms
  • Exposure to enterprise ETL, automation, data security and data governance frameworks
