Overview

Data Center Technical Operations Engineer at Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We keep the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a 24/7 rotating shift pattern
• Support management of routine maintenance and emergency service of critical systems (switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, fire systems, etc.)
• Install new rack capacity and provision power/cooling
• On-site management of contractors and vendors, ensuring work complies with practices, procedures, and local legislation
• Establish performance benchmarks, analyze data, and document all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance; manage facility assets
• Generate change management requests and incident tickets for facility events; assist in resolution of infrastructure issues
• Collaborate with data center IT managers and business leaders to coordinate day-to-day operations, projects, capacity, safety, performance, reliability, sustainability, and efficiency
• Drive and implement projects to increase facility capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and reliability; assist in design, commissioning, and build-out of new data center facilities

Day-to-day activities

• Work schedule changes based on site needs; shifts are 12 hours and rotate on a predefined schedule
• Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal SLAs
• Perform rack installations and decommissioning; manage facility operations
• Provide operational readings and KPIs to maintain uptime
• On-site management of contractors, subcontractors, and vendors; ensure compliance with practices and local legislation
• Oversee maintenance and operations of electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment in the data center

Qualifications

• Basic: High school or equivalent diploma
• 2+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
• Preferred: 2+ years of data center engineering experience
