Job summary

Morgan McKinley Melbourne is seeking a Data Analyst - Deals to join a growing deals analytics capability, working on live M&A engagements rather than internal reporting.

You will turn messy invoice-level data into deal-relevant insights, build Alteryx workflows and Power BI dashboards, and mentor junior analysts while handling two to four-week projects.

Qualifications

• CA qualification completed.
• Hands-on deal/transaction analytics experience, ideally from Big 4 or boutique advisory.
• Strong Alteryx and Power BI skills; able to build and troubleshoot workflows.
• Experience reconciling transactional data against financial statements.
• Comfort with incomplete or messy data and an independent approach.
• Experience mentoring junior analysts.
• Resilience in deadline-driven, project-based environments.

Responsibilities

• Work directly on buy-side and sell-side transaction engagements, turning large, messy datasets into deal-relevant insight.
• Reconcile granular transactional data to financial statements, clean and map data, and build analysis from the ground up.
• Calculate and interpret deal metrics (e.g., recurring revenue, CAC, LTV, price/volume/SKU breakdowns) for various sectors.
• Independently determine which parts of a dataset matter for the deal questions at hand.
• Build workflows in Alteryx and dashboards in Power BI for internal and client-facing output.
• Review and mentor junior analysts' work as the team grows.
• Operate across multiple engagements at once, typically two to four weeks per project.

Our client, a well-established professional services and advisory firm, is scaling a specialist deal analytics capability and is looking for an experienced analyst to become the technical right hand to the practice lead. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of transaction advisory and data analytics, working on live M&A engagements rather than internal reporting.

What you'll do

• Work directly on buy-side and sell-side transaction engagements, taking large, messy, often invoice-level datasets and turning them into deal-relevant insight
• Reconcile granular transactional data back to financial statements, clean and map inconsistent customer, product and vendor data, and build the analysis from the ground up
• Calculate and interpret deal-critical metrics depending on sector, for example recurring revenue, churn, customer acquisition cost and lifetime value for technology targets, or price, volume and SKU-level breakdowns for retail and consumer targets
• Independently work out which parts of a large, unfamiliar dataset actually matter to the deal question at hand, rather than waiting to be told
• Build workflows in Alteryx and dashboards in Power BI that support both internal analysis and client-facing output
• Review and mentor junior analysts' work, acting as a technical second-in-command as the team grows
• Operate across multiple fast-moving engagements at once, typically two to four weeks per project

What you'll bring

• Strong, demonstrable Alteryx and Power BI skills, able to both build and troubleshoot workflows and dashboards independently
• A track record of reconciling detailed transactional data against financial statements and translating it into a commercial narrative
• Comfort working with incomplete or messy data and proposing your own approach rather than needing detailed direction
• Experience reviewing or mentoring junior team members
• Resilience for a deadline-driven, project-based environment with periods of high intensity around deal timelines
