Job summary

The Midfield Group's Union Pastoral Co division in Warrnambool, Victoria, seeks a Dairy Cattle Farm Operator to support day‑to‑day farm management. You will help with milking, cattle care, irrigation, and record keeping in a safe work environment.

We value reliability, physical fitness and teamwork. Training and career progression are available within our global organisation, with a salary range of approximately $70,000–$80,000 AUD per year.

Qualifications

• Reliability, physical fitness and teamwork are essential.
• Must understand personal hygiene and following procedures.
• Must have the right to work in Australia and be available for 38 hours per week.
• Minimum 1 year of related farm experience.
• Certificate II/III Agriculture preferred but not essential.
• Must pass a drug and alcohol screen and a pre-employment medical.
• Q Fever vaccination already given or willing to vaccinate.

Responsibilities

• Assist in controlled breeding tasks and livestock improvement efforts.
• Operate milking plant and equipment safely; read and record milk temperatures and cow IDs.
• Operate a dairy recycling system and calf feeding procedures.
• Assist with irrigation and general farm maintenance tasks.
• Inspect livestock to monitor feed effectiveness and health.
• Transport, handle and store chemicals; apply pesticides as required.
• Operate vehicles and machinery on farm; report any equipment issues.
• Maintain accurate stock and inventory records and ensure food safety compliance.

Union Pastoral Co as part of The Midfield Group is one of Australia's largest 100% family-owned companies, proudly producing top quality dairy products. Based in the Warrnambool, Victoria, we are now looking for a Dairy Cattle Farm Operator to assist with day-to-day farm management.

About you:

• You must be reliable, physically fit and willing to work as part of a team
• You understand the importance of personal hygiene, attention to detail and following procedures
• You have the right to work in Australia (38 hrs per week)
• You have minimum 1 years previous related experience
• Certificate II or III agriculture (or equivalent assessed by relevant authority) would be prefered, but not essential
• You must pass a drug & alcohol test and be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical if required
• You have already had a Q Fever vaccination or are willing to participate in the vaccination process

About the role:

• Assist in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved livestock strains
• Operate milking plant and equipment in a safe manner, undertake multiple functions including reading and recording instrument information e.g., milk vat temperaturesand cow numbers and matching cow ID to calves to produce a quality milk outcome
• Operate a dairy recycling system
• Calf feeding, including tubing colostrum
• Assisting with and/or performing irrigation works
• Inspect livestock to gauge the effectiveness of feed formulae
• Transport, handle and store chemicals; prepare and apply chemicals
• Operate farm and dairy shed-related vehicles, plant and equipment
• Identify and report equipment not operating normally, maintenance of plant and machinery
• Where appropriately qualified, perform maintenance works on sheds, fixtures and fittings, fences and surrounds and install new or replacement equipment or fittings
• Transport stock, feed and equipment, if appropriately licensed
• Maintain records to ensure accurate information for stock and inventory control
• Ensure food safety regulatory requirements are met
• Contribute to and implement Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements
• Operate computer equipment and software packages requiring set-up and basic function operation
• Coordinate the response to emergencies for both occupational health and safety emergencies and animal welfare emergencies
• Participate in enterprise/industry training sessions and workshops as required
