Job summary

Union Pastoral Co, part of The Midfield Group, is based in Warrnambool, Victoria, and seeks a Dairy Cattle Farm Operator to assist with day-to-day farm management and milking operations.

You will work in a safe environment on-site, perform breeding, milking, irrigation, and stock management tasks, and contribute to product quality and regulatory compliance. Applicants should have 1+ year experience and be prepared for pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• You must be reliable, physically fit and willing to work as part of a team.
• Personal hygiene, attention to detail and following procedures are essential.
• You have the right to work in Australia (38 hrs per week).
• Minimum 1 year of related experience.
• Certificate II or III Agriculture would be preferred, but not essential.
• You must pass a drug & alcohol test and be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical if required.
• You have had/are willing to take a Q Fever vaccination.

Responsibilities

• Assist in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved livestock strains.
• Operate milking plant and equipment safely and read/record instrument information (milk vat temps, cow numbers, calf IDs).
• Operate a dairy recycling system.
• Calf feeding including tubing colostrum.
• Assist with irrigation works.
• Inspect livestock to gauge feed effectiveness.
• Transport, handle and store chemicals; prepare and apply chemicals.
• Operate farm and dairy shed vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Identify and report equipment issues; maintain plant and machinery.
• Perform maintenance on sheds and fittings; install new equipment as qualified.
• Transport stock, feed and equipment (licenses as required).
• Maintain records for stock and inventory control.
• Ensure food safety regulatory requirements are met.
• Support OH&S and safety training; respond to emergencies.

About You

• You must be reliable, physically fit and willing to work as part of a team
• You understand the importance of personal hygiene, attention to detail and following procedures
• You have the right to work in Australia (38 hrs per week)
• You have minimum 1 years previous related experience
• Certificate II or III agriculture (or equivalent assessed by relevant authority) would be prefered, but not essential
• You must pass a drug & alcohol test and be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical if required
• You have already had a Q Fever vaccination or are willing to participate in the vaccination process

About The Role

• Assist in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved livestock strains
• Operate milking plant and equipment in a safe manner, undertake multiple functions including reading and recording instrument information e.g., milk vat temperaturesand cow numbers and matching cow ID to calves to produce a quality milk outcome
• Operate a dairy recycling system
• Calf feeding, including tubing colostrum
• Assisting with and/or performing irrigation works
• Inspect livestock to gauge the effectiveness of feed formulae
• Transport, handle and store chemicals; prepare and apply chemicals
• Operate farm and dairy shed-related vehicles, plant and equipment
• Identify and report equipment not operating normally, maintenance of plant and machinery
• Where appropriately qualified, perform maintenance works on sheds, fixtures and fittings, fences and surrounds and install new or replacement equipment or fittings
• Transport stock, feed and equipment, if appropriately licensed
• Maintain records to ensure accurate information for stock and inventory control
• Ensure food safety regulatory requirements are met
• Contribute to and implement Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements
• Operate computer equipment and software packages requiring set-up and basic function operation
• Coordinate the response to emergencies for both occupational health and safety emergencies and animal welfare emergencies
• Participate in enterprise/industry training sessions and workshops as required
