Job summary

Mitta Park Pty Ltd is seeking a Dairy Cattle Farm Operator to support daily dairy farm operations, including milking, animal care and facility upkeep. The role involves operating equipment, maintaining safety, and teamwork across shifts.

The successful candidate will have prior dairy farming experience, be physically fit, and able to work a 7-day roster including weekends and public holidays. Training on farm procedures and equipment will be provided.

Qualifications

• Previous dairy farming experience is essential.
• Competency in tractor driving and operating feeding implements.
• Good understanding of animal welfare and farm practices.
• Physically fit and capable of manual work.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong teamwork skills.
• Able to work a 7 day roster including morning and evening shifts, public holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Operate milking plant and equipment.
• Identify and report equipment not operating normally.
• Work co-operatively as part of a team.
• Read and record instrument information (Milk vat temperatures, cow numbers).
• Understand the principles of safe working.
• Undertake multiple functions to produce a quality outcome (e.g. farm machinery).
• Maintain machinery, undertake adjustments and size changes.
• Solve problems and make decisions within given guidelines.
• Know general scientific terminology and assist with processes such as machine repair, artificial insemination, fertiliser mix design, etc.
• Operate standard measuring equipment.
• Operate computerised systems using menu options.
• Contribute to the team in a specific role and assist other team members.
• Work at times without supervision.
• Make decisions about animal health and report to supervisor.
• Follow treatment plans and protocols.

A Dairy Cattle Farm Operator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of a dairy farm by assisting with the care and management of livestock and maintaining farm productivity. Duties typically include milking cows, feeding and watering livestock, monitoring animal health and reporting concerns, cleaning and maintaining dairy facilities, operating basic farm machinery and equipment, assisting with pasture and fencing maintenance, and ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety, animal welfare, and biosecurity requirements.
