Job Description
Who we are

Countersight is a specialist cybersecurity company delivering security research, capability development and consulting services to clients within government and across the private sector. We are independent, Australian, and Canberra based but with the flexibility to operate Australia wide.

Our team works on interesting problems across the entire technology stack, from embedded systems to web and mobile applications, finding creative ways to deliver the capability our clients need.

The Role

Location: Canberra (hybrid arrangements available)

Hours: Full-time

Salary: Competitive based on experience

Clearance: NV1 or the willingness/ability to obtain

Our cybersecurity consultancy practice allows us to make a direct positive impact on a day-to-day basis. It provides our clients with the opportunity for rapid progress while enabling us to learn valuable lessons that feed into our security research and related work.

Building on our core competencies of cyberoperations capability development across threat detection, threat intelligence, incident response and security engineering, the Senior Cybersecurity Consultant will lead and execute all elements of Countersight’s strategy for our cybersecurity practice, including service and methodology development, service delivery, team building and business development. Our aim is to position Countersight as a leading consultancy within the Federal Government, while also expanding our reach into the broader Australian private sector.

What you’ll do
  • Strategy – Lead the development and execution of Countersight’s cybersecurity practice, fusing technical competence with strategic thinking and people skills and by identifying priority capability areas, shaping market positioning, and aligning service offerings with evolving client needs. Drive long‑term planning in offerings across cyber operations, threat intelligence, incident response, and security engineering to ensure Countersight remains a credible, high‑value partner to government and private‑sector clients.
  • Business Development – Actively cultivate new business opportunities through client engagement, proposal development, and scoping activities. Represent Countersight as a senior subject matter expert in client discussions, RFQ responses, and partnership engagements, ensuring our value proposition and technical depth are clearly articulated. Support growth into Federal Government consultancy and broader Australian commercial markets.
  • Service & Methodology Development – Design, refine, and maintain Countersight’s cybersecurity methodologies and service models across cybersecurity practice areas including threat detection, threat intelligence, incident response, capability uplift and secure system engineering. Ensure service frameworks are repeatable, evidence‑based, aligned with ISM/PSPF/DSPF requirements, and reflect contemporary best practice drawn from operational experience and industry standards.
  • Service Delivery – Oversee end‑to‑end delivery of consultancy engagements, including project planning, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder coordination. Ensure services are delivered to a high professional standard, balancing technical rigour with pragmatic client outcomes. Provide quality assurance and mentorship to consultants delivering technical workstreams.
  • Consultancy – Directly deliver high‑quality cybersecurity consulting services to clients, including assessments, advisory engagements, capability development, incident response guidance, and technical problem‑solving. Apply deep technical experience across areas such as threat hunting, vulnerability assessment, analytic tradecraft, and security engineering to provide actionable, context‑rich advice.
  • Team Leadership – Shape and grow Countersight’s cybersecurity team by providing leadership, mentoring, and professional development. Foster a high‑performance, collaborative culture that reflects Countersight’s values and commitment to technical excellence. Guide junior and mid‑level consultants, support recruitment processes, and contribute to building a strong, motivated, and diverse practice capable of delivering specialised outcomes for government and private‑sector clients.
