Job summary

NSW Education Standards Authority is seeking a Cyber Security Officer to protect information, systems and services, delivering security operations, monitoring and governance. You will work within the ICT team to enhance cyber security controls and support business objectives across NSW.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an information technology role, preferably working in a cyber security environment.
  • Experience monitoring and responding to cyber security alerts, incidents and vulnerabilities within a complex technology environment.
  • Strong analytical, logical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks, investigate security events and identify practical remediation actions.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a range of stakeholders, including translating complex technical information into meaningful insights for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships and collaborate effectively with internal teams, vendors and service providers.
  • The resilience and adaptability to work through challenges, respond to changing priorities and remain focused in a dynamic cyber security environment.
  • Strong technology knowledge and an understanding of cyber security operations, compliance requirements and security best practices.
  • Ability to deal with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and triaging security alerts and events from security monitoring platforms and reporting channels.
  • Conducting initial investigations and security assessments to determine risk, impact and appropriate remediation actions.
  • Managing cyber security incidents, events and service tickets through to resolution, ensuring accurate documentation and timely escalation.
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders, vendors and service providers to support incident response, vulnerability remediation and security improvements.
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of cyber security operational procedures and controls.
  • Preparing reporting and analysis to support security governance, performance and informed decision-making.
  • Keeping up to date with emerging cyber security threats, vulnerabilities and industry trends to support proactive risk management and service continuity.

  • Full-time, Salary: $102,936 to $113,579 p.a. plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and leave loading

About the role

As a Cyber Security Officer, you will play a key role in protecting NESA's information, systems and services by supporting the delivery of cyber security operations, monitoring, incident response and continuous improvement activities. Working within the ICT team, you will undertake security reviews, analysis, reporting and governance activities to help safeguard the organisation's digital environment and support the achievement of business objectives.

This is an exciting opportunity for a cyber security professional looking to broaden their experience across security operations, incident management, vulnerability remediation and stakeholder engagement. You will work collaboratively with internal teams, vendors and service providers while contributing to the ongoing enhancement of cyber security controls and practices in an organisation that supports positive outcomes for students and schools across NSW.

Note:A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance for paid employment is required before commencing in this role. It is not required at the application stage. The cost of the WWCC clearance is the responsibility of the successful applicant.
