Job description

Job ID: 2696742 | Amazon Web Services Australia Pty Ltd

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leading cloud service provider, providing virtualised infrastructure, storage, networking, messaging, and many other services to customers all over the world. AWS runs a globally distributed environment, operating at massive levels of scale. Businesses, from start-ups to enterprises to large government customers, run their operations and applications on AWS’ highly secure infrastructure.

AWS Security is looking for an experienced Cyber Security Manager, with proven experience in leading a high-performance cyber security team. You will need a combination of troubleshooting, technical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to lead a team of cyber security subject matter experts. You’ll be responsible for planning and delivering complex packages of work to support our security programs. You will guide the security program through its development, support and operation phases, working closely with our internal and external customers to identify cyber security outcomes and maintain the security program's ongoing compliance to broadly recognised industry standards such as NIST, ISM, PSPF and ASIO T4. You will be responsible for all cyber security aspects covering application security, network security, platform security, cross-domain solutions and cryptography.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Manage a team of cybersecurity experts and lead cybersecurity activities related to the security program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  2. Coordinate cybersecurity-related engagements with both internal and external customers, fostering effective communication and collaboration to address security concerns and requirements.
  3. Identify cybersecurity packages of work and develop strategic plans for their delivery within agreed timeframes, employing proactive measures to mitigate risks and ensure successful outcomes.
  4. Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to drive cybersecurity outcomes across the overall cloud capability, safeguarding critical assets and data against cyber threats.
  5. Implement ISM, PSPF, DSPF, ASIO T4, NIST and/or other security compliance frameworks into design and build baselines to achieve the agreed security posture.
  6. Create, optimize, and support cross-functional working groups and projects.
  7. Utilise domain expertise to develop thought leadership material on cloud and emerging technologies, contributing to industry discourse and organizational innovation in cybersecurity practices.
  8. Manage tight deadlines with precision and drive results, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and ensuring the timely completion of cybersecurity initiatives with high quality and accuracy.

Hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see here).

A day in the life

You will lead a team of cyber security experts and engage with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes. You will show exemplary judgment in making technical trade-offs between short versus long-term security and business goals. You must possess resilience and navigate difficult situations with composure and tact. Conflicts should be addressed by listening and finding the best way forward for our customer. You will regularly analyse your own performance with a critical eye. A broad understanding of the cloud business and its interconnections is required. This position will also provide training, advice, and mentorship to other engineers throughout AWS.
