Job summary

Compare the Market and iSelect are seeking a senior cyber security leader to drive day‑to‑day cyber defence across the brands. You will translate strategy into practical controls, manage incidents, and improve security posture while balancing operational demands and priorities.

Reporting to the Head of Information Security, this hands-on role leads security operations, vulnerability management and security initiatives with cross-functional teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading cyber defence operations and incident coordination.
• Strong knowledge of security monitoring, endpoint/cloud security, IAM and data protection.
• Ability to balance operational priorities with security initiatives and stakeholder needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead security monitoring, alert triage, investigations and response activities across both businesses.
• Coordinate investigation, containment and recovery of security incidents with internal teams and external specialists.
• Drive vulnerability management and remediation, prioritising risk and tracking actions through systems.
• Oversee effectiveness of security controls across endpoints, cloud, identity, access and email security.
• Deliver security roadmap initiatives with defined scope and measurable risk reduction.
• Produce meaningful security reporting to support risk and investment decisions.
• Build relationships across infrastructure, cloud, application, service delivery and risk teams; mentor security partners.

What You’ll Be Doing

Lead the day-to-day cyber defence capability across Compare the Market and iSelect, protecting business services, customer information and employees. Reporting to the Head of Information Security, you'll translate security strategy into practical controls, measurable outcomes and ongoing operational improvements.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for security operations, incident response, vulnerability management and the delivery of security initiatives. You'll work closely with technology teams, business stakeholders and external partners to strengthen security posture while balancing operational demands and strategic priorities.

• Lead security monitoring, alert triage, investigations and response activities across both businesses, continuously improving detection coverage, telemetry, playbooks and operational processes.
• Coordinate the investigation, containment and recovery of security incidents, working with internal teams and external specialists while providing clear communication, governance and post-incident reviews.
• Drive vulnerability management and penetration test remediation, prioritising risk, assigning accountable owners, tracking actions through ADO and validating closure through evidence or retesting.
• Oversee the effectiveness of endpoint, cloud, identity, access, email security and DLP controls, partnering with platform owners to improve compliance, coverage and operational resilience.
• Deliver security roadmap initiatives by defining scope, dependencies, owners and success measures, ensuring new controls are operationally supportable and provide measurable risk reduction.
• Produce meaningful security reporting across detection performance, incident response, vulnerabilities, exceptions and control effectiveness to support informed risk and investment decisions.
• Build strong relationships across infrastructure, cloud, application, service delivery and risk teams, while managing security partners, improving operational capability and providing technical leadership and coaching.

Essential

What Sets You Apart

• Demonstrated experience leading cyber defence operations, coordinating security incidents and making sound risk-based decisions in complex environments.
• Strong knowledge of security monitoring, endpoint and cloud security, identity and access management, secure access and data protection controls, with the ability to interpret testing outcomes and drive remediation.
• Proven ability to balance operational priorities, security initiatives and competing stakeholder demands while effectively managing service providers and technology partners.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and coaching skills, with a disciplined approach to documentation, metrics, governance and delivery.
• Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent practical experience in cyber security, security operations or cyber defence.

Desirable

• Experience within customer-facing digital businesses or multi-brand environments, with exposure to PCI DSS, security assurance and risk reporting.
• Familiarity with AWS, Netskope, Cloudflare Zero Trust, cloud security posture management tools, work-tracking platforms and security automation.
• Exposure to detection engineering, threat hunting or security operations automation.
• Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, GIAC GSOM, AWS Security Specialty or equivalent security, incident response or cloud certifications.
