Job summary

CSIRO is Australia’s national science agency seeking a Cyber Awareness Advisor to strengthen its cyber security culture. You will develop and deliver awareness programs, translate risks into practical guidance, and drive behaviour change across researchers, leaders and staff.

You will contribute to strategic planning and hands-on delivery, plan a risk-aligned awareness roadmap, and use data to identify gaps and improve engagement with cyber security.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience in cyber security, education, learning design, communications, organisational change, behavioural science, information technology, risk, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, coordinating or delivering cyber security awareness, education, training, behaviour change, digital safety or capability uplift initiatives.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, including translating cyber concepts, risks and policies into clear guidance for varied audiences.
  • Experience using metrics, feedback or engagement data to evaluate and improve awareness, training, communication or change activities.

The opportunity

As a Cyber Awareness Advisor, you will play a key role in strengthening CSIRO's cyber security culture by developing and delivering cyber awareness, capability uplift and behaviour change initiatives. Working across a diverse research organisation, you will translate complex cyber security risks, policies and services into clear, practical guidance that helps staff and leaders adopt secure everyday practices.

You will contribute to both the strategic planning and hands-on delivery of awareness programs, driving engagement, building cyber confidence and supporting lasting behavioural change across the organisation.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of CSIRO's cyber awareness, capability uplift and behaviour change function.
  • Develop and maintain a risk-aligned awareness roadmap, proposing initiatives for cyber leadership endorsement and delivering agreed activities.
  • Plan and deliver awareness, education and engagement activities, including role-based guidance, campaigns, workshops, intranet content and practical job aids.
  • Translate cyber risks, policies and services into clear guidance for researchers, leaders, corporate teams, technical users and other priority groups.
  • Apply learning, communication and behaviour change principles to support cyber-safe behaviours and improve engagement with cyber security.
  • Use data, feedback, incident themes and stakeholder insights to identify awareness gaps and improve activities.

Location and office arrangements: Sydney (Lindfield), Melbourne (Clayton), Canberra (Black Mountain), Perth (Kensington), Brisbane (St Lucia)

Salary: AU$100,103 - AU$113,251 per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate, you will bring:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience in cyber security, education, learning design, communications, organisational change, behavioural science, information technology, risk, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, coordinating or delivering cyber security awareness, education, training, behaviour change, digital safety or capability uplift initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively where structure or maturity is developing, including exercising initiative, prioritising work and delivering quality outcomes with some direction.
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities, develop recommendations for endorsement and translate agreed direction into delivery.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, including translating cyber concepts, risks and policies into clear guidance for varied audiences.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including building trusted relationships and improving engagement with cyber security.
  • Understanding of common cyber risks and safe behaviours, including phishing, identity, information protection, secure collaboration and incident reporting.
  • Experience using metrics, feedback or engagement data to evaluate and improve awareness, training, communication or change activities.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, ISM, PSPF, Essential Eight, adult learning or organisational change.
  • Experience in research, higher education, government, regulated, scientific, technology or distributed organisations.
  • Experience developing role-based learning, cyber awareness campaigns, phishing simulation support, tabletop materials, intranet guidance, leader toolkits or communities of practice.
  • Experience applying behaviour change, human risk, change management, marketing or communication principles to improve adoption of desired behaviours.
