Job summary

Campbelltown Arts Centre, part of Campbelltown City Council, seeks an experienced Curator to lead its Contemporary Visual Arts program during a pivotal period of transformation as the centre moves to a temporary exhibition and programming space on Queen Street, Campbelltown.

The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining the Centre's reputation as a leading contemporary arts organisation while delivering exhibitions, commissions and initiatives in collaboration with artists, curators

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive job-related experience in the visual arts, curatorship and equivalent and/or job-related experience.
• Knowledge of visual contemporary arts practice within local, national and international arts organisations.
• Extensive experience in curating.
• Extensive experience in the managing staff and contractors (including artists, educators and technical personnel).
• Extensive experience in the development and monitoring of program budget.
• Experience in preparing and negotiating contracts and agreements relevant to artistic programs.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience in writing, editing and commissioning high quality arts texts.
• Working with Children Check (a verification will be conducted on recommended applicants). This position has been identified as "child-related employment" under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998. It is an offence under the Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998 for a person convicted or found guilty of a serious offence against children (whether in NSW or elsewhere) to apply for this position.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of the Contemporary Visual Arts program during a pivotal period in the organisation's history.
• Develop and deliver exhibitions, commissions, initiatives and contribute to complimentary programs that amplify artists’ and community voices.
• Work closely with artists, curators, creative practitioners, community members, partners and colleagues to develop and deliver exhibitions, commissions, initiatives and contribute to complementary programs that amplify artists’ and community voices.

Tertiary qualifications in visual arts

Extensive experience in curating

Extensive experience in managing staff

Experience in development and budget

Experience in negotiating contracts
