Job summary

Wathaurong Aboriginal Co in Geelong is seeking an Aboriginal Health Worker for the Koori Maternity Service to provide culturally safe, holistic support to Aboriginal women, babies and families during pregnancy and after birth.

The role focuses on improving maternal and infant health outcomes, helping families access primary health care, delivering health education, advocating for women, and strengthening engagement with services.

Qualifications

• Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Islander status is required under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
• Part-time (0.8 FTE), Fixed Term (12 months).
• Provide culturally safe, holistic support to Aboriginal women, babies and families during pregnancy and after birth.

Responsibilities

• Provide culturally appropriate support to pregnant women and their families to improve pregnancy and post-birth outcomes for Aboriginal women and infants.
• Assist Aboriginal women and families to access primary health care services.
• Deliver health education and health promotion activities to Aboriginal Community Members.
• Advocate for women and families.
• Strengthen engagement between families and services by building trusting relationships and addressing barriers to participation in the Maternal and Child Health Program.
