Job summary

Vulcain Engineering Group in the UK is seeking a Cost Engineer to join the Integrated Project Controls team. You will manage and monitor project finances, develop cost baselines, and ensure plans reflect current progress across major infrastructure programmes.

You will work with schedules and estimates, support change control, risk and reporting, and communicate with stakeholders to align cost performance with project goals.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Cost Engineer on major infrastructure, energy or highly regulated projects.
  • Understanding of cost management methodologies and techniques.
  • Ability to understand and use cost management software.
  • Understanding of earned value analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and update project plans with full costing and resource management.
  • Manage change control processes and update configuration documentation.
  • Understand baseline control and types of baseline changes.
  • Use tools like EVM to assess cost performance against schedule baseline.
  • Identify and integrate cost impacts of risks and opportunities into the plan.
  • Apply project control methodologies across programmes and projects.
  • Produce monthly cost reports and forecasts.
  • Integrate with project estimates and schedules for cost management.

Job description

In the UK, we have a key focus on the Nuclear sector, contributing to groundbreaking projects such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).

The Cost Engineer will be part of the Integrated Project Controls team. The team acts as a centre of excellence for project controls implementation, providing a single source of delivery performance information. It operates across a matrix organisation supporting various project programmes, including Central, Site, Engineering, MEH, Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, Balance of Plant, Instrumentation and Controls, and Commissioning.

They will be responsible for managing and controlling the finances of projects or programmes using appropriate tools to analyse the performance of the schedule/plan. Cost Engineers should report the cost performance of the plan to senior members of the team and communicate effectively with stakeholders responsible for delivering the plan to ensure that it is representative of current progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing, managing and updating project and programme plans including full costing, development of WBSs, resource management, cost management of risk and critical path review, using appropriate software and tools.
  • Managing the change control as the project/programme scope changes, using the correct processes and updating the necessary configuration documentation.
  • Understanding the need for project baseline control and different types of baseline change.
  • Understanding the tools (e.g. EVM) to assess project cost performance against the baseline schedule.
  • Understanding risk and opportunities and integrating the cost of these strategies effectively into the plan/schedule.
  • Understanding project control methodologies and processes for programme and project management.
  • Producing monthly reports.
  • Integrating with project estimates, schedules and performing the cost management requirements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience working as a Cost Engineer on major infrastructure, energy or highly regulated projects.
  • Understanding of cost management methodologies and techniques.
  • Ability to understand and use cost management software.
  • Understanding of earned value analysis.
  • Reside locally to London/Ipswich or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
