Job summary

Altrad is a leading provider of specialist construction, maintenance and industrial solutions in Australia, powering major energy, resources, utilities and defence projects. We are seeking a Senior Cost Controller for the Brisbane East division to manage cost, productivity, forecasting and performance data across critical gas infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will collaborate with planners, quantity surveyors, accountants and site teams to deliver accurate insights,

Qualifications

  • 8+ years' experience in Cost Control or Project Controls.
  • Experience on SMP, heavy industrial, construction, resources, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of cost control, CTC forecasting, productivity analysis, budgeting and variance reporting, EVM desirable.
  • Experience with ERP/cost management systems such as Pronto, SAP, JDE, Oracle.
  • Qualifications in Quantity Surveying or Engineering will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and manage the project cost tracker aligned to WBS structures and cost codes.
  • Monitor commitments, actual costs, labour hours, plant utilisation, and project expenditure.
  • Prepare weekly cost and productivity reports and monthly commercial reporting packs.
  • Develop and maintain Cost to Complete (CTC) forecasts.
  • Support revenue forecasting, budget management, and cost performance analysis.
  • Raise purchase requisitions and maintain project cost coding structures.

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Cost Controller to join our Projects East division, based in our Brisbane office and supporting the delivery of critical gas infrastructure projects across Australia. This role will play a key part in ensuring strong commercial and cost performance across major construction projects within our growing portfolio.

Reporting to the Project Manager, with functional support from the Head of Project Controls, you will be responsible for the management, integrity and analysis of project cost, productivity, forecasting and performance data. Working closely with project leadership, planners, quantity surveyors, accountants and site teams, you will provide accurate and timely insights to support informed decision-making, effective cost control and successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities include:
Cost Control & Forecasting
  • Develop, maintain, and manage the project cost tracker aligned to WBS structures and cost codes.
  • Monitor commitments, actual costs, labour hours, plant utilisation, and project expenditure.
  • Prepare weekly cost and productivity reports and monthly commercial reporting packs.
  • Develop and maintain Cost to Complete (CTC) forecasts.
  • Support revenue forecasting, budget management, and cost performance analysis.
  • Raise purchase requisitions and maintain project cost coding structures.
Productivity & Performance Analysis
  • Monitor labour productivity, cost productivity, and plant utilisation metrics.
  • Analyse trends, identify emerging risks, and provide recommendations for performance improvement.
  • Deliver meaningful insights into project performance drivers and cost efficiencies.
  • Support the project team with data-driven reporting and decision-making.
Project Controls Integration
  • Work closely with the Project Planner to align cost, schedule, and physical progress data.
  • Support Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting and analysis.
  • Monitor CPI, SPI, and productivity performance indicators.
  • Identify and communicate variances impacting project delivery and commercial outcomes.
Reporting & Data Integrity
  • Validate project information against timesheets, rosters, plant utilisation records, ERP systems, and site reporting.
  • Maintain a high standard of data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to improve project visibility and performance tracking.
  • Support weekly operational reviews and monthly financial reviews.
Commercial Support
  • Assist with client payment claims and supporting documentation.
  • Partner with project teams to identify risks, opportunities, and forecast movements.
  • Provide timely commercial insights to support strategic project decisions.
About You

You are a highly capable Project Controls professional with strong commercial acumen and a passion for delivering accurate, insightful reporting that supports successful project outcomes.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in Cost Control or Project Controls roles.
  • Experience working on SMP, heavy industrial, construction, resources, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of; Cost Control principles, Cost to Complete (CTC) forecasting, Productivity analysis, Budgeting and variance reporting, Earned Value Management (desirable)
  • Experience with ERP and cost management systems such as Pronto, SAP, JDE, Oracle, or similar.
  • Experience in self-perform labour and plant-intensive project environments.
  • Qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
